MLB Relegation?

I haven’t dug through the manual or deep into league settings, but is it possible to set up Relegation between MLB and AAA, AAA to AA etc?

Thinking that would put a fascinating spin on team finances and goals. Imagining a situation where a small market MLB owner goal would be “avoid relegation and be profitable this year”.

That would also completely change how GMs approach setting up organizations with current vs. potential ratings.

That wouldn't make sense considering the major league teams put their prospects in the minor leagues. For instance, what are you going to do if the Durham Bulls (the Rays' affiliate) end up being the best AAA team one year (they were the best last year), are you really going to promote Durham to the majors? What about their players, do they get to keep them? I don't imagine the Rays would be okay with that. And the rich teams will certainly end up paying revenue sharing to Durham for however long they're in the majors because they certainly don't have the market to support a MLB team. And if the Pirates got demoted and were forced to become the Rays' new affiliate, I don't think the Pirates' owners would be okay with being forced to make all their players available to the Rays maybe forcing the Pirates even further down the pole. No, there's just no way that would work.

You could, however, create another league and relegate/promote teams to/from it.

I believe you would need to scrap the minors for this to really work since having minor leagues would complicate your full system. I have run fictional promotion-relegation leagues before, and the financials portion of it definitely complicates the league.

If you want to do a MLB promotion league, my suggestions would be to make them into a Division A/B type of split (two leagues). Maybe using the 2021 standings, your league could look something like this:

Division A (Top 14 from 2020):
Tampa Bay
Boston
NY Yankees
ChiSox
Houston
Atlanta
Milwaukee
St. Louis
San Fran
LA Dodgers
Toronto
Seattle
Oakland
Cincinnati

Division B (Bottom 16):
Balt
Cle
Det
KC
Minn
LA Angels
Tex
Phil
NY Mets
Mia
Wash
Chi Cubs
Pitt
SD
Col
Ariz

Then you could set it up where one or two teams move up or down per season.
