What is your ideal Pitchers besides/ high stuff power pitchers?

I find that high stuff dominant power pitchers who post high K%-BB% along with really high K rates are difficult to attain (big surprise).

So I guess it probably seems obvious that the best alternative would be a guy who excels in movement/ control which may lead to bolstering one's FIP and performance regarding the three true outcomes.

But to be more analytical.. seeing as the K seems to be king in the modern era for pitchers, wouldn't you rather have a guy with say 50's across the board (50 stuff, movement, and control) than a guy with 40 stuff, 55 movement, and 60 control or something comparable?

This question/ discussion doesn't have to be strictly about ratings. It can be about the overall "archtype" of the pitchers that you find to be second best behind power pitchers. GB/FB rate may be pertinent as well.

As best I can tell, if you can't get a power pitcher, your best bet is likely a guy that still has 50/55 stuff with 50/55 control. Believe it or not, I've become less concerned with movement the more time goes on. Average/ decent control keeps my guy in the game for 5.2IP and beyond and if his stuff is decent/average he can boast a decent K%-BB% some seasons. I'm okay with a solo dinger now and then if the overall FIP is good.

Except for my "stopper" relievers, I'm really not that concerned with Stuff. I'd much rather have a pitcher with decent ratings across the board with maybe a bit better Movement. Not talking PT, if any one of the big 3 ratings is really low I find that can hurt you. For a starting pitcher, I'd put Control second (they're not going to last as long without decent control) and Stuff last (keep in mind, Ks are not the only kind of out and if you have a good defense, use them). For a reliever, I'd put Stuff second and Control last (I don't care about relievers lasting or giving up the odd walk). Just don't leave in a reliever who has bad Control when the bases are loaded.

It's really only my stopper reliever, the guy I'm bringing in in a high leverage emergency put out the fire moment, that I really want great Stuff. Of course, you probably want him to have great Movement and Control too. But it's really only in those situations, especially those where there's not a man on 1st, but men on 2nd and/or 3rd, that you really want that pitcher who Ks. If there's just a guy on 1st that you're worried about (it's a close game), bring in a GB specialist instead. GiDPs are the best kind of outs, but forces at second are quite nice too.

That's interesting. Unless I come across a Stroman/ F. Valdez type groundballer I wouldn't ever think to discount Stuff. I love stuff as long as the 50 control is there.

Guess I'll have to tinker some more and keep an open mind.
