International Complex

At what point do I know a layer is ready to be promoted from the international complex? I have several international complex prospects that are 18 years old. Is that when I should promote them to rookie ball?

I think traditionally, the school of thought is to promote them when they are 18. Currently, I’m trying out just plopping them right into DSL, and then promoting them to my rookie leagues once they are 18.

The answer is always the same when it comes to what to do with a player and when to promote him to any level: It all depends and no two players are the same. If a kid is ready at 17, I promote him. If he's 19 before I think he's ready, I promote him when he's 19. The only thing I won't do is promote a 16 year old. If he's ready at that age, he can wait another year and I'll promote him when he's 17.

Look at those players "relative to Rookie ball" and see if they have the skills to play or not. I've kept players in the complex until 20(?) or whatever the max age is if I think they can eventually help, even if that is only as minor league fillers that are able to help my minor league teams win.

If they get to the point I have no faith they can compete in R ball then I release them. Or if the complex gets to the point of being full I will release a few of the bottom players so I have room for discoveries.
