Long-time OOTP Franchise fan here! I’ve always been super into it and then I stumbled upon this new button on the front page called Perfect Team. And just like that, I was hooked. Actually, my journey started way back with FPS Baseball 94, which totally feels like the inspiration for OOTP. The similarities are wild—so many ideas seem straight out of that game.
Since I'm a huge fan of this franchise, I'm always up for sharing what I've learned and maybe even giving some tips on how to enjoy it even more.

And we are at Diamond, this is going to be humiliating and/or humbling week. There is going to be only one target and that is about avoiding relegation, worse case scenario, just don’t finish dead last. Also, there is no baseline for main weakness in statistics yet so I do need a full season to figure out which aspect to improve, safest choice is just to find offensive upgrades that do it all, which is going to be expensive.

Evaluating players e.g. how and why I make choices for lineups. This came up because in one of the streams there was question about which key attribute to look at when choosing upgrades from Reserves, and my opinion is that there is no single key attribute which can make a difference. That’s why I have for Offense “Runs Created” + custom “BABIP”, for Pitching also custom versions of FIP and BABIP, basically I don’t know how to derive IP and have replaced it with more or less known way of estimating PA’s. Anyone can make an assumption of how many Hits a Contact rating will result in using base game engine as baseline, it’s not an exact answer but it will allow to compare players which is the primary purpose here when choosing whom to use in your lineup.
Examples :
- basic RC = TB x (H + BB) / (AB + BB),
All you have to do here is just to calculate expected results from Ratings, they don’t have to be exact as mentioned before, just something that can be used to compare players
- custom FIP = (13 x HR + 3 x BB - 2 x SO) / (AB + BB)
Here IP has been replaced with PA’s, not perfect but usable still. Pitchers have HR Rating but I’m not convinced yet about it’s implementation as I have seen very strange results in league play where High HR Rating guys are being humiliated with HR’s allowed, MOV rating seems to be still the one to watch here instead,
- still thinking about new and interesting ratings that could be used to select players.
BABIP based on GAP - ignoring fully POW rating hence easier to promote lead batters,
SECA with AvoidK’s - would be nice to promote seriously annoying batters who get on base, produce extra base hits and just eat up a lot pitches from starters
There are several ways of translating/reverse engineering estimated actual sim results from Ratings, it’s a matter of taste and time available to do this. I can give some guidelines but not a confirmed recommendation.
* Collect actual statistics at end of season at respective League level and match it with corresponding Ratings, e.g. EYE to Walks,
* Simulate in base game with Player Development disabled some bunch of seasons and repeat measurements as in previous example,
* And maybe someone just knows what the numbers behind each rating are.
I have my own version that I’m sticking to, it’s not perfect, it’s not exact, actuals fluctuate massively but I’m sticking with it. This is the way.
This entire block might need a separate thread, blog, study, informed and critical thinking group.
And with that bombshell, a little about secondary affiliate teams which I have also running in background.
LONDON Rangers BRONZE .230 : no special theme, casual format.
Activated that team couple weeks after OOTP24 launch, got some nice Perfect’s pulled from packs immediately : SP Jesse Tannehill (Pitcher of the Year twice in 5 seasons), DH Shohei Ohtani (not so great anymore, overrated in my opinion)
MADRID Real BRONZE .220 : only cards from Packs ( + cheap Live Diamonds from shop) are allowed for Active Roster.
Collecting NonLive cards, Bronze is missing 6 cards from full set (that includes 2 LE cards). Currently buying cheap Silver’s whenever possible.
There are exactly 0 Perfect cards, just not a single pack has produced a perfect yet. But at least we won one and only World Series at Stone level. Maybe that’s the trick, avoid Perfect cards to get a WS title.
