Just a quick update before the winter meetings begin.
We have agreed to a contract with right handed reliever Kameron Loe. Loe will earn
$950K for the 2013 season and will be competing for a spot in the bullpen in the spring.
We have been speaking with Cardinals GM John Mozeliak about a deal that would send Alex Presley to the Cardinals in exchange for 1B/OF Allen Craig. Craig would be a great addition to our line up but my worry about the deal is that Craig is in the beginning of a contract that progressively gets more expensive over the next 5 years thus providing us less pay roll flexibility. Also Craig bats right handed so a platoon with Gaby Sanchez wouldn't work.
We have also been in discussions with O's GM Dan Duquette about 1B Chris Davis. Davis provides a left handed power bat and is only entering arbitration at the end of 2014. Duquette has only asked for SS Jordy Mercer in return and I'm leaning this way simply because I like the payroll flexibility that it provides. But I will continue discussions with these 2 men and I figure to have a deal done before the end of the meetings.
We have also offered a 2 year contract totalling $1.925 mil. to C Austin Romine to be our back up for 2014-15 seasons.

Paul Konerko has decided to stay with the White Sox as they put the finishing touches on a deal that will pay the 37 year old Konerko $34.2 mil. over the next 2 years. Konerko will again man 1B and bat 3rd for the Sox.
The Cardinals acquired 17 year old minor league catcher Luis Torrens and 19 year old Minor League 2B Yonathon Mendoza from the Yankees in exchange for 25 year old reliever Joe Kelly. Kelly pitched 69 innings for the Cards in 2013 posting a 2-3 record with a 5.09 ERA, he will be competing for the number 5 spot in the Yankee rotation.
The Astros swapped 27 year old starting pitcher Scott Diamond to the Cubs getting 20 year old minor league 1B Daniel Vogelbach. Diamond went 11-9 with a 4.82 ERA pitching for the Twins and Astros last year. Diamond figures to find a spot in the back end of the rotation for the Cubs.
