Tigers made some moves today:

* Cut left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander

* Waived infielder Zack Short, who was claimed by the New York Mets.

* Waived relievers Trey Wingenter and Andrew Vasquez. They were outrighted to Triple-A Toledo and can elect free agency.

* Formally exercised club options on catcher Carson Kelly and outfielder Mark Canha.

* Reinstated right-handed pitchers Casey Mize and Freddy Pacheco; and outfielders Riley Greene and Austin Meadows from the 60-day injured list.

* Selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Keider Montero, adding him to the 40-man roster.

Are fans and the "talking media heads" still blaming Dombrowski for their awful seasons? It's only been eight years since he left, lol

No. Where would you get the idea that people are still blaming Dombrowski?

I assume it is because a lot of fans of former Dombrowski run clubs continue to blame him for years after because of what he does to farm systems. Florida only recently stopped blaming him and Boston is still going strong.

Tigers hire new lead TV announcer from White Sox

Quote:
The Tigers said Benetti signed a multiyear deal and will be an employee of the team, not Bally Sports Detroit, the TV rightsholder. (Most on-air talent with Bally Sports Detroit are employed or contracted by the network).

The club said Benetti’s contract calls for him to broadcast at least 127 games per year. When Benetti has other obligations on national broadcasts, longtime radio man Dan Dickerson will move over to handle TV duties.

I've actually yet to ever hear Petry do a game. I quit even tuning in last year after awhile. Just watched the opposing teams broadcast.

Seeing lots of Sox fans on Facebook saying how much they're going to miss Jason. That's a great sign. Like I said, I really enjoyed the Sox games I watched last year due to him and Steve Stones broadcast styles.

Sadly in the case of the Tigers, if they continue with the noise that is Craig Monroe, even Ernie Harwell couldn't save the broadcast. Noise sucks the very last drop of joy out of the game of baseball.

I hear you. I did like Monroe as the sideline guy. When they moved him into the booth, I had flashbacks to the horror that was Tim McCarver.

Dave, you mentioned Ernie. One of the many wonderful things about Ernie was that he knew when to stop talking. It's a skill they don't teach at talking head...I mean broadcast journalism school...these days.

Sometimes, all the viewers want is the roar of the crowd...

Thing is, more often than not, its not the professional broadcasters that create the problem. It's the ex players. They simply don't understand that they aren't being paid by the word. I liked Shepherd. I liked Mario. The last play by play guy I disliked was Josh Lewin, he was a weasel.

The fact Jason Benetti is an employee of the Tigers versus Bally's makes me wonder if Detroit is planning ahead for something. Based on everything that went down with Bally's parent company last year, first off, I was expecting the shoe to drop on Bally's all season, but secondly, I wonder if the Tigers won't be viewed through Bally's next year. I'm curious where this might be going.

Worst ever. Should I repeat that 6 or 7 times like he would have?

I wonder how the Sox let Jason go.

You should be quite pleased. I once heard Benetti call a game on FOX and I (wait for it) did NOT want to kill John Smoltz. He actually kept Smoltz from sucking up to Manfred about his "great" ideas to destroy baseball, and somehow just got Suck-Up to tell funny stories while Jason called the game (basically ignoring Smoltzie, as should always be done).

So miracles can happen.

Tigers non-tender Spencer Turnbull

The Turnbull drama in Detroit is over. I liked the guy. I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but I was hoping to see him pitch in Detroit again. Oh well.

Sad to see him and Austin Meadows non-tendered. I hope Austin and get well and be back in the league one day. Really liked his play.

Sad news. Willie Hernandez passed away yesterday. 69 years old. RIP Willie, you were a huge part of the best baseball season ever.

so young.

Rest in peace Guillermo. The best season of my five-decade love affair with the Tigers.
