According to Bill James back in the 1980s, a strong September was a positive indicator for next year's performance.

Of course, the 1980s were four decades back (old! so old! Also, FFS, Mets!) and I haven't tracked the data since then. But it feels logical, so good news coming, perhaps?

Also, perhaps Baez will visit the Cespedes Ranch in the offseason and you'll be spared another OPS+ 60 season. I don't mean to be cruel, but I imagine it's been a while since a regular player put up stats like those.

Another cause for hope next year with Miggy's retirement is that Carpenter may become a fixture at DH. Seeing another ball play his legs like a xylophone last night reminded me how damaging it is to have him wearing a glove on game days.

Maybe Detroit will get a Motor City Miracle and Javy Baez will opt-op of his contract

I think if Miggy finishes in the Top 10 in MVP voting then his 2024 option vests. Come on guys, for old times' sake!

Not always.

The mean position of the atmospheric Polar Front, in September, crosses into northern Illinois, from Wisconsin.

Essentially, warm, southerly winds predominate for the summer months, in Chicago.

In September, the winds more often (predominately, in fact), now come from the north, and northeast, off the lake.

This is where baseballs go to die, in Wrigley Field, and was THE main reason for the Cub's collapse in September. This year? PERFECT example. The Cubs, relying on the long ball, just stopped hitting. F7, F8, and F9.

I believe the Cubs have pitchers, too. Theoretically, the park effects should even out.

Yes, the wind famously only affects the home team. Also this was an extremely warm September in Chicago terms but mostly, we are talking about that September wind which only blows in when the Cubs are at bat.

I haven't paid much attention to him since he left other than to take note of his great stats. As a Tiger, I never liked him. He seemed like a lazy ball player. I hated seeing JD Martinez, Scherzer, Verlander, Paredes, Candelario et cetera leave. I remember thinking 'good' when Nick left town.

I did not expect E-Rod to opt-out of his deal: https://twitter.com/jonheyman/status...61481854513553. Unless him and the team are restructuring his contract, this doesn't make any sense to me from a a player's perspective as he's not a front line starter for any MLB club.

Based on him blocking the trade earlier in the season, I thought he'd want to stay here. But as the season went on, people smarter than me guessed he'd opt out because he can get more money (even if he's a middle-of-the-order guy on most teams). Looks like the smart people are more right than me so far.

I will remain a skeptic until it actually were to happen but if Detroit lands Yamamoto, we may be saying "ERod who?" next year.

I don't think Rodriguez was someone you could depend on. Gets hurt all the time. Disappears from team for personal problems. Let him be some other teams problem. It does suck that he screwed us out getting something in return for him in that trade, but it was his right to do so.
