"Team x does not have enough players"

...or something a long those lines. I'm doing a historical league with full minors so I changed the performance equivilancies to make the fictional players at least half as good as the real ones on the major league roster...but occasionally during the beginning of the season the sim stops and tells me that this team or other has an illegal number of players. So I fill the league with fictional players, and then the same thing happens a couple of days later. Is there a smarter way of getting this to work?

I got a similar error where a single A level team fell below the minimum number of Pitcher (3), although the team had 12 pitchers on its roster. I was running a single table 16-tame league with AAA, AA, A, A, and rookie leagues attached

Thanks Markus...I'm not even looking at the individual teams, and it only seems to be happening in spring training. If I notice anything else specific to this problem I'll post it here.

Mark me down as another having this problem. Every single time I start in 1903 with full minors.

darn greedy big league clubs...

It seems like the problem is that all the players regularly are being called up to Spring training.
  1. Import Historical League
  2. Add Minor Leagues
  3. Game will stop around April 1 with the illegal number of players bug
As reported above, adding fictional players does not help, as they are just called up within a day or two.

Oh well... I needed a break anyway! I figured starting my second league on the first day of release was asking too much!!

I believe he's saying that he screwed down the "player creation modifiers" to make sure the fictional players weren't better than the historical players.

According to the guide, minor league equivalencies are already reduced, so my guess is that 50% on the player creation modifiers might result in some really bad minor leaguers.

And here is a solution. At least it worked for me and should for you if your problem was in a league with historical players and a fictional minor league attached to it.

You may need to start a new league to get this to work but if you go to league setup for the parent historical major league and under the rules section enable the Expanded Roster and Secondary Roster size (I set both of mine to 40 man) the problem will not occur.

This will do the trick until Markus can find us an automatic fix.

I have battled this issue all though the beta. It usually happens in the early years, so at the start of the season, you have to go fill the minors.

Make sure you click on each minor league and hit FILL WITH FICTION...

After a few seasons, the problem would pretty much go away.

Part of the issue is that we are setting low modifiers, so the computer is creating lousy players. So the players do not stick around as long in the minors.

My suggestions was on Jan. 1st, have the minors autofill with fictional players based on your modifiers. This of course would be an option that you would have to turn on. At least this way, I could sim 20 years with no stoppage.

BTW, it is usually the lowest level of the minors that has the problem. As the higher levels grab players from the lower levels to fill in.

The fix works perfectly. Currently I've run through two Spring Training sessions without problems (I like to let the league "mature" a little before I jump in and play). Since I play in the modern era anyway, I can live with this workaround.

Thanks TF!

Something else to recall for folks doing historical leagues in combination with minors is the schedule situation with your minor leagues.

There's a good chance for incongruity there unless you carefully set your minor league schedule lengths and opening dates.

By default, when you start a historical league, the game will load the actual major league original schedule for that year (and will load the actual schedule for subsequent years as well). But your minor leagues will likely be using the game's schedule generator to create their schedules and I believe the default starting date is April 1st. This will not match the opening date for the major leagues; indeed, in most years it will be about two weeks early.

Not only that, but the style and calendar length of schedule created by the schedule generator for the minors will be considerably different from what the actual minors might have used in that season.

So, my advice is to carefully consider the schedules for your minor leagues when using minors in a historical league and to double-check your schedule settings for your minor leagues.

...and this was post #3400 for me! Woot!

I'm having this problem too, in a fictional league that I'm trying to run from 1901-2005. Some years, on April 1, the sim stops because one or more teams has an incomplete roster.

I'll try the workaround, but I'm also going to try to make sure that the affiliated minor-league seasons all begin at a later date than the Major League season. I'll let you know how that goes.

Just an FYI: this has me dead in the water for my startup fictional league. I'm not doing any historical, but I still have a rookie league team with only one pitcher on their roster. Oh, and I tried the fix - my league was already set-up with those attributes.

I'm getting the same type of problem, omly my bottom teams don't have position players. I think the problem is that the bottom teams aren't signing free agents to replace the vacancies caused by demand from the top, because the higher teams send players down. Problem is, they're not sending the right kind of players down. So what needs to happen is for the rookie team to release the surplus players (I've got a team at the bottom with 20 pitchers) and sign the positions they need from the free agency pool. I'm slowly learning how to do this myself as commissioner, but with 12 leagues and 8 teams per league that's not a horribly practical solution.

Thanks Tiger Fan. I was actually finally starting to enjoy myself after spending hours screaming at my computer trying to learn the new interface when I started getting that error but your workaround seems to have done the trick. Thanks again.
