I need some scouting help

OK, I think I am missing something. I go to the personenel screan and select scout team. It then gives the message that it will be 3 days or 21 day for the organization etc... I then hit continue for 4 or 5 days and go back to the same screen. My scouts task are all blank so I thought they were done scouting. However, none of my players have been scouted and I have no email that it was completed. What am I doing wrong?

Once your scout has completed scouting a team/org/whatever, you should get a personal message in your in-box describing what the scout found. Then, you will be able to view the scout's new ratings for those players in game screens like the Roster, etc. by selecting the scout from the Scouted By drop-down.

Does that help?

That is what I don't get. I tell my scouts to scout my team. It says 3 days remaining. As soon as I hit continue the status goes blank. I have waited a whole month and none of the scouts have completed anything. Some of the tasks that I have given them are only estimated at a 3 days. I am sure it is user error, but I can't figure out where. I have looked at the manual over and over. The only thing I can get to work is a quick scout a player.

If you go to the Personnel page for your team, does it show tasks listed for your scouts?

Try creating a brand new game. Make it something simple - just one fictional league with all the default settings, and make yourself the manager of one team. Try sending your scouts out, and see what happens.

It could potentially be a bug, don't sell yourself short.

I found a way around it, but I don't know if it intentional or not. I am acting in Commisish Mode. If I add another human manager and then act as that manager it works fine. However, if I switch to my other manager who is the commish and managing the team it does not work. Maybe there is a toggle in there somewhere that it thinks it is still running the team and overrides my scouting. Not sure, but adding the 2nd manager who is just a manager is working for me. I just set the original manager who is the commish to not manage a team.

This helps, let me play around with it a bit...

I'm having the same problem. I assign a scout to a long term task (ie 21 days). It shows up in his task list. I sim a day, go back and the task is gone. I don't get anything but quick scouting reports either.

Mark,

When you have this problem, are you both a commissioner AND a manager? If you create a manager-only identity, can you scout fine?

Either of you, if you are both commish and manager, can you tell me, are you using the "Act As" drop-down in the upper right corner? Or you actually employed full time as the manager?

Thanks!

I fixed my issue by adding a manager and using it. If I play as commish and act as in the upper right corner it does not work. Like I said maybe it was planned this way, but not intuitive.

I was commish and mgr and yes, I am using the "act as" button. I went into setup and unchecked commish mode to see if it made a difference but it didn't seem to.

Alright, here's the story. It looks like the game is unable to support scouting under the following circumstances:

- you are the commissioner
- you are NOT actually the GM of a team
- you are temporarily ACTING AS the GM of a team

Note: This is only a problem if ALL of those criteria are met. For example, if you are both a commissioner AND the actual manager of a team, you can still scout with no problem. It's only when you use the "act as" drop-down to temporarily take over a team that scouting isn't supported.

Unfortunately, this is not something that can be fixed in a patch. It's just the way the game behaves. I'm sorry that we were unable to resolve this issue fully.

battists could you clarify the difference between actually being the gm and using the "act as"

If you select a team when you first create your GM, but then switch to another team using act as, will you lose your GM status when you switch it back to your original team?

I remember somewhere Markus addressed this. You must apply to be the GM of the team to do GM duties such as scouting, lineup setting, rostermanagement etc. and have it stick. This applies even if you are playing in commish mode.

If you use the upper right drop down to "act" as the GM of a team it will not stick quite frequently as the real GM will override your desires.

Does selecting a team during GM creation count as "applying"? This is crucial information for online leagues.

OK in playing around just now. If you put the human manager in commish mode he can "Apply as GM". Now of course the real commish will have to turn the human manager on as commish using the commish password long enough to allow that particular human manager to "Apply as GM" then turn off the commish mode for that human manager.

Ok, I think I found an easy way to tell the difference. If you are the GM of a team, your name appears as General Manager on the personnel tab, even if you're acting as another team.

For leagues with scouts and coaches disabled,if you look at the personnel html page (from team home) you will see no General Manager listed for human controlled teams, but CPU controlled teams will have a GM listed.

I think you guys have pretty much figured it out. I'll be updating the Game Guide to give a better description of this.

I've worked on this with Markus a bit, and unfortunately it won't be changing in this version. However, I will be revisiting it with him in the future, trying to make this somehow more intuitive.

Thanks much...
