My contribution to the OOTP world
Well, I can't do much, but I can try to help out those who want to play historical leagues in OOTP2006. This database includes 22,690 teams in 2965 leagues. Also included is a list of 1395 leagues which I do not have team data for. There are 2 versions of the database. One is in CSV format and the other is an excel database. I have concentrated on minor leagues in America though some international data is included (Mexico, Japan, etc.). I hope you enjoy it and find it useful. If you can help contribute to the data please let me know.
I must thank fmontoya for hosting these files at www.allsimbaseball.com. excel version csv version |

The database can be used to create historical minor league teams for your universe. It also provides a covenient place to find affiliations of minor league teams, nicknames of teams, and leagues for a particular year. In my experience most historical simers want realism in their recreations. This database will help in that endeavor.

I have a book on the Southern Association, So I can help with these missing years
First off: from 1885 to 1899 was called the Southern League. The Southern Association started in 1901, in the mid-1930's they tied their history to the Southern League. Your missing years: 1884 - did not exist 1889 - a complete mess / no nicknames listed New Orleans Charleston (folded 6/15/1889, moved to Atlanta 6/24/1889) Chattanooga Birmingham (folded 5/15/1889, replaced by Mobile 5/16/1889) Atlanta (folded 6/12/1889) Memphis (folded 6/12/1889) 1899 Mobile Blackbirds Shreveport Tigers New Orleans Pelicans Montgomery (no nickname listed, folded 5/1/1899) Dallas Steers (replaced Montgomery) 1900 - did not exist

Thanks for the information. What book do you have?
When deciding what to name a league I tried to go with the excepted naming that SABR used if possible. Many leagues of that era were also refered to as Associations. This meant that I ran into conflicting data while researching. |

Are we supposed to use it in conjunction with the Lahman? or separately? Does it have all the minor league players? It would seem that would be too huge a task to complete, so I'm guessing it's just team names and stuff? |

Minor League Player information is relatively hard to come by, and almost impossible to find in any format that could be added to Lahman's database. Outside of manually entering the data from old guides, this is impossible.
This database is best used as an addition to a historical simulation. While trying to set up historical minor leagues. This database will give the information that is needed. |
