Stats bug and weird use of pitches
I noticed this on a rare occasion.
I turned a workhorse starter into a reliever, and when I checked the Top Game Scores page, I found that he was on the top of the list with a 11.2 inning performance. So I opened the boxscore and checked--he relieved 11 scoreless innings for the win (the starter went 5 innings). Curious on how the AI manager has been using him during the season, I opened his Game Log, under his personal pitching stats section. And the Game Log says his decision was Sv(3). Then I checked again. In the boxscore of that particular game, he got the W (#6). Then I started to note something really strange. Some decisions (W-L-S) results are missing in his personal Game Log too! So this might be a bug. Please check into it. To explain the weirdness of this game log, please note that Win #1 is nowhere to be found. And W #6 is replaced with Sv #3. So if we correct the Sv #3 into W #6, the Sv totals are screwed. The first 4 games are against minor league teams, just for reference. ---------------------------- Another really weird thing is the pitch selection of the AI. I've set a pitcher to 101+mph fastball with ALL pitches available to him. And I tried to play one at-bat manually. Guess what happened? 14 knuckleballs in a row. Foul, foul, foul. I mean, hello? You got a 101mph fastball and you're throwing 14 knuckleballs in a row trying to get that guy out? (He walked that guy at the end, btw) This probably has an impact on the pitches thrown of the pitchers that have knuckeballs. Yeah, knuckleballs are cool, but keep on throwing 60mph knuckleballs just don't seem right to me, when all other pitches are available at his arsenal. |

Looking at the screen shot, it appears that it's counting Saves as Wins. And since the first four games were exhibition, or minor league games, they don't count in the record against major league opponents.

I mean, look between the W(3-0) (minor league wins) and the L(1-1). Where was his first major league win? If you count the Sv totals, they are correct. (And since I checked that particular game on 8/5/2006, I know that they counted the Win as a Save in the Game Log.) Then again, where was Win #6? Last edited by Satanic; 06-01-2006 at 07:24 PM. |

I think I've seen the "count saves as wins" defect.
I've got reliever that's been displaying a record of 2-0 with 1 save. When I went to look at his game log, I only saw 1 win. I thought it wasn't displaying a win in the log, but when I read this thread, maybe if it is counting the save when it counts the number in the W column, that might be the explanation. |
