Like it or not, when you buy a computer game, you buy the rights to play with somebody else's intellectual property. You don't get to undo that. You aren't buying a pair of pants here that you theoretically can't do anything with once you return them. You can't find a way to go into your pants' registry and copy the file, return the jeans, and then reload them secretly into your wardrobe. Granted, you could probably figure out a way to do this to make your copy usable by your friends even if you do legitimately buy the game, but at least in that scenario OOTP has 35 of your dollars.

I know that 90% of the public who would be getting refunds are honest but the other 10% would seriously cut into the company's profitability by skirting the letter and the spirit of the return. It's an unfortunate aspect of technology, that companies have to set rather draconian policies in order to protect themselves (and the honest public, for that matter) from the machinations of a few thieves. This is why no game company, no software company for that matter, is going to give you a "return policy" on a program you've already purchased from them and loaded onto your computer.

to be fair, the game is LOADED with bugs, which have made the game unplayable for alot of people, myself included.

I know they are doing everything they can to fix the game, but the simple fact of the matter is that it should not have been released yet.

I've bought every version since #2 (not including 6.5), and the frustration this last version is causing has me seriously considering switching over to puresim baseball for good.

Puresim is a good alternative for you..... But this game is better and will get better. Switch now and enjoy Puresim. You will be back - but not missed....

All software has bugs, some more than others, but bugs are just a fact of life in the software industry. The game is not unplayable for anyone. It may be not as much fun as expected because of the software issues, but the game in its current state is very playable. You just choose not to play it at this time.

Good luck with your future PS associations. This time next year you will be thinking that it was a mistake to give up on this game.

To be fair the demo has the same bugs as the full version of the game. I suppose you could make the argument that previous ootp owners would be likely to buy without waiting for the demo and that some were and are frustrated.

I would counter that being rewrite that I expected some bugs and possibly some that would stop me from starting a serious career right away. I would also say being a previous owner that with Markus' track record of fixing bugs that I will be more patient than a new buyer. Add in the fact that SI has a great reputation of patching their games and listening to their customers and I become more at ease with the current situation.

For someone that never owned ootp or only d'loaded a free v5(Remember they d'loaded a fully patched v5 not a first release version) to buy the game unseen instead of waiting for a demo to me is an "at your own risk" transaction. It was no secret there would be a demo out around the time of the release. To come in and ask for a refund when a fully functioning demo was going to be available is unfair to SI. Everyone has the opportunity to try the demo and nobody is forced to preorder or buy the game. But if SI does a refund they are still out the fee they have to pay elicense. Why should they take a loss when they provide a demo so people can try before they buy?

Give SI some credit here also. Most companies would simply say too bad, no refund. You bought it, you installed it, its yours. SI has not said that. They have said they want the opportunity to get the game working for you. If they can't then a refund may be the solution.

I don't think it's any secret how the software-game industry works. Once you open a package or d'load a game the chances of getting a refund is almost nil. This is countered with most games having a fully fuctioning demo so you can try before you buy. If you are ever unsure of a purchase then you should wait for a demo to make sure the game does what you expect and want.

It wouldn't exactly be trendsetting.

Both Diamond-Mind and Mogul offer 100% money-back guarantees:

http://www.sportsmogul.com/corp/returns.htm

I cant find the PureSim return policy, but I am guessing Shaun would be more forgiving than Mark.

This is really such a non issue its not funny, ill guarantee that most people, and im talking 99% of the buyers, will be patient and wait for the fixes, because we all know that OOTP 2006,will blow any other baseball game out of the water when its fixed. Games like pure sim and bm2007 are better off offering those guarantees, because there very low volume anyway. And im sure if there was something unfixable in the game OOTP developments would be glad to give your money back, but that,at this point is not the case.

Anyone not satisfied with having to patch purchased software had better just shut off their computer. I just bought a new laptop with Win XP, SP2, ans still had to install 48 update patches.

I'm also curious as to how quickly you will be refunded your money with those other games. I doubt it's a swift process.

Your right I can understand how it takes only 5 minutes to order it probably takes 5 weeks to process a refund.

32 out of 101, hate OOTP

almost 30 %, are not happy

enough said
And 68% are happy. You have to figure that most of the people on the boards are either people that are having problems with the game or people trying to help those people.

The credibility of the results of these polls is tenuous at best.

Puresim's a great game--I play and enjoy it myself. I often find myself thinking "why doesn't OOTP have an in game play like this." However, it has plenty of problems too. What are they up to now--Beta patch 1.16?
