Importing league, why the new players?

So in order to import a 6.5 league, you have to import the league, then you have to manually add the AAA, AA and A associations. When the league begins, for some reason, the computer fills every level with random junk players in addition to the minor leaguers that were there? For example, the Rockies had like 10 minor leaguers total on their roster in 6.5, but in OOTP2006 they have like 75. Problem is, every single one of these guys is an absolute scrub. And the computer wants to put most of them on the 40-man roster.

In 6.5, the minor leagues were simmed with "ghost players" or something. In order to have a minor league affiliate, do you have to have 25 guys on the roster? What a chore to have to keep track of 75 players, most of whom stink and the AI desperately wants to sign and release. Is there anyway to work around this, or at least stop the AI from generating 100s of dreck?

For whatever reason ghost players were eliminated in this version. The junk players are supposed to be there but they are bad enough that they wont develop past where they are. So you dont really have to keep track of them and depending on how many players you are drafting/signing after a few seasons I have found that most of them have been weeded out of my organizations anyway.

That's cool, but the computer treats these guys like gold (one day, then dirt the next). I just don't see the point to adding 300 complete scrubs to the league.

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to this message. Unfortunately (for you), Aordolin is correct - this version of the game no longer has "ghost players." That is, every player in the game is real and fully tracked, and therefore all rosters must be fully manned at all times.

This was a design decision, and the impact on OOTP 6 leagues is just as you've described. Some of the AI shuffling of players should be reduced in the upcoming Patch 2, however.

For now, I'm moving this over to Closed/Claimed Fixed. I'm happy to discuss this more if you'd like.
