I downloaded the new patch, but the game won't open. It gives me an error that says "Unable to open graphics. Make sure your screen resolution is 1024*768 and that your windows taskbar is not set to always remain on top."
My resolution is 1024*768, but I have no idea how or where to check my taskbar settings. Please show me the light. Thanks ![]() |

Have you rebooted since the patch? Sometimes that helps.

For Taskbar settings, on the "start" bar, usually across the bottom of windows xp by default unless you've moved it, find a "clear" space (not on a button), and right click there. Then pick properties. On my machine, even if it looks like there's buttons all across the bottom, there's always a little strip between the buttons and the "desktop" at the right. Also another one between the actual "start" button and any buttons for apps you are running.
I do that all the time to get to "show desktop", so you should see that on the context menu that appears on the right click. But what you want for this is the "properties" item. |

I found the "task bar always on top" option and unselected it, but I still get the sam error message. I do appreciate the help though.

Have you tried minimizing the taskbar?

If by minimizing you mean using the mouse arrow to drag the top eadge of the taskbar down until it cannot be seen then yes. Otherwise I don't know what you mean.

I got it to work, but I had to adjust my screen to 1152x864. I've got 20/20 vision, but screen elements this small REALLY bother my eyes. Is there any sane reason this is happening. Its a cool game, but its not fun if your eyes hurt while you're playing or if you have to adjust your monitor everytime you want to play. I'm a bit pissed off that the game is significantly worse AFTER I got the patch. I hate to say it, but I'm starting to miss the free version 5.

Big Irish, are you still experiencing this problem? Because we should be able to resolve this; this isn't something you should have to deal with.
What's your latest status on this. Just FYI, from my perspective, the brown-green skin is superior to the other two in terms of "legibility" as well. It just feels a lot sharper to me. Give it a try as well. Thanks, Steve |

Since we haven't been able to replicate this, and haven't gotten more information, I'm going to move this to closed/claimed fixed. Please feel free to post a new thread if any issue comes up!
Thanks, Steve |

I didn't see your previous message, sorry. The situation remains as it was. I haven't tried to get around it. I tried to get used to it, but ended up just avoiding the game. The screen thing is annoying & I had my first two attempts to play the game end in error messages that said my game file was corrupt and couldn't be loaded.
The game SEEMED like a great idea, but its wasted money, because it just doesn't work like its supposed to. I guess I should have bought 6.5 instead. Thanks for the help. The community is great. Christopher |

I'm sorry this is going so poorly for you.
![]() If you're still willing to give it a shot, I recommend this, since a newer, more stable patch is due out today (1.0.2) 1. Uninstall the game 2. Delete the entire directory structure (you can save your saved games, if you have any) 3. Get a full copy of the new patched version, when it is released. 4. Install 1.0.2, and come pester us some more if it's still not working. We'd really like to help you enjoy this game! Steve |

We have a new rule that states that Tech Support threads wherein we have not received a response within 7 days will be closed.
This one meets this criteria, so I'm closing this. If you want to discuss it again, just PM me with the thread link, and I'll re-open. (Don't just say "Hey, reopen my thread." I need to know the URL, thanks!) Steve |
