PbP Errors
In the first one, it says that Biggio covers first base for the out. Biggo was playing in centerfield at the time.
In the second one, look at the last two lines. Unassisted out and the throw is there in time.

I've seen so many pbp bugs. An outfielder chasing a ball in the gap with another outfielder also in chase, and one outfielder calls himself off the play then makes the play.
I've seen 3rd basemen catching line drives over 1st base. I've seen players named as making a play in the field that weren't even in the game. The pbp is pretty shabby. I do get a few laughs out of it. My guess is beta testers just sim everything because there is no way on earth all these pbp errors would have gotten thru if any actually played out games. This is my argument for public betas. |

I spent a week reading through every line and finding any and all errors that I possibly could (and I'm sure there are ones I missed). You need to update to the new xml file too, because all those hard coded players (Drysdale for pitchers and Davis for fielders) were caught... unless they missed one I reported, or have since added something new that ended up with the problem again. Currently, there are two (myself included) people constantly reporting pbp errors in the thread for doing so still trying to work out any problems. Also, not all of it is the xml files fault. Players calling themselves off, misreporting a second fielder (first fielder throws to a second) is the game itself sending bad info to the call. The xml text object may say (second baseman) throws to (fielder 2), where fielder 2 should be the guy at first catching the ball, the game sends the wrong info and you get an out at first by the second baseman throwing to the left fielder. So bash the writers, and us who've volunteered our time trying to make the pbp better for you guys if you want to... just know a lot of people have put (and continue to put) a lot of time into making it, and editing it and TRYING to fix any and all problems that exist. I can't speak for the writers, or the other guy trying to find errors, but I'm always happy to know my work on it is appreciated. |

I appreciate your work.
There are two ways to fix problems: complaining about them, and pointing them out in a calm and rational manner so those that can do something about it will. There is no need for multiple threads pointing out errors in the text (whether PxP or game code). There are not only many threads already dedicated to the subject, but there are entire BOARDS to that effect. There is a search function on these boards for a reason. Please begin using them. Perhaps if a post was placed at the beginning of the forums where they can't be moved around by other posts, making it easy to find, explaining what's being worked on there wouldn't be multiple threads about the same thing? Just a thought. To be honest, I wish there was an option to turn pbp off and only show end result. That would suit my needs much better. Last edited by StyxNCa; 06-23-2006 at 11:25 AM. |

I would assume that beta testers were looking more at the correct functionality of the game than the specific play by play. Which IMO is good, I'd much rather have the majority of the problems with the game (playing a game) be in the pbp text output than be in the actual on-field mechanics. The pbp stuff is being dealt with in the Mods: pbp section, since a lot of it (not so much anymore though) can be fixed by the text team without having to TT problems to code development. |

People have no idea on the amount of time spent to prepare what was there and the little time there was to test it. Trust me, if we could of had an extra month to test things we would have lobbied for it, but the May 31st date was in stone. Had it been delayed an extra month, everyone would have whined about it. Darned if you do, darned if you don't!
The PbP needs to be looked at further, agreed. I have been spending time doing things around the house that I neglected for the late hours I put into the game prior to its release. We are aware of things and will look at getting things fixed soon. I appreciate all those that make the effort to point out errors in a civil manner. |

The first part, well we were told the reason for the late release date was to make sure things were as good as they could be, yet when released there were many things wrong. I would have been happy to wait longer had things such as the missing pinch hitting stats been fixed before I got the game. Overall, I am very happy about the game and feel the price I paid wasn't nearly what I would have paid for it, but I'm not complaining ![]() Now, don't anyone say I never give credit when credit is due. ![]() Last edited by StyxNCa; 06-23-2006 at 02:38 PM. |

I'll echo what tysok said, in case anyone is still checking in here: The discussion at http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=124166 was pretty lively for a while. Lots of errors in the PbP text database were fixed as a result, and a number of other issues were identified as problems caused when a line of text pulled from the game code didn't synch up neatly with the text that was subsequently or previously pulled from the database. Those glitches have all been put into TT as individual bugs, and they've all been cl***ified as needing to be worked on.
If you find a swatch of PbP text that doesn't make complete sense (and, ideally, if it's a type of error we haven't logged already), please put a note in that other thread, where operators are standing by. k Last edited by M's rule; 07-01-2006 at 12:08 AM. |

I believe all of these issues have been resolved, if not in the current patch, then in the next one. So I'm moving this to Claimed Fixed.
Please let me know if you need to re-open! Thanks, Steve |
