OOTP 2006 and eLicense on Windows XP, 64-bit edition

Hi there,

I've tried contacting eLicense on this and I can't get an answer.

I've got a machine running the 64-bit edition of Windows XP (since I have a dual core Pentium processor, I need an O/S that will support it and this is the only Windows OS).

I've been having a problem installing any version of OOTP, and the problem still exists in this version.

What happens is that the game installs fine, but if I go to run it, I get the following eLicense error:
Quote:
eLicense Control

In order to finish initializing, this application must first be run by a user with administrator privileges.

Please contact your system administrator for help.

The problem is that I am logged in as the administrator when I get this message.

I know it's got something to do with eLicense and WinXP 64-bit edition, but I figure I'm not the only person with this O/S and that has this game (or any other eLicense product).

Is there some sort of fix or patch available?

Thank you in advance.

Your best bet would be to contact eLicense for support directly.

e-license problems

You are not the first person to be having problems with installing games that use elicense running on 64 bit windows. There are several people who have brought games from greydogsoftware who are having the same problems, I would go to http://www.greydogsoftware and email one of them and find out if they can help you solve the same problem. I believe that there was a person who mention that elicense currently does not support 64-bit windows. If you go on to there website they should have a Q&A page that talks about 64-bit windows and If they currently support it or not.

Thanks, fredreed and eriqjaffe.

As I pointed out earlier, eLicense has been no help throughout this process. They asked me if I was an admin (which I am), and if I could write to the Windows directory (which I can).

I told them this and have heard nothing back at all.

So...I tried this route.

fredreed: I couldn't find that thread. Could you post it here? Thanks.

e-license

Here is what I would do then, contact either microsoft or the computer maker of the computer and see if they can help you out, if they can't help you out then I would call someone who has more knowledge in this area and ask them if they could solve your problem. Is this the first time that this has happened to you?

Yes it is.

Microsoft doesn't want anything to do with it because "it's not our product that doesn't work, it's theirs." And I can understand that to some extent...plus eLicense could also be used potentially for software that represents a competitive threat, and why would you help the hand that could slit your throat?

The computer manufacturer is a custom comp manufacturer that, to be fair, warned me upfront that the odd thing here and there in XP64 isn't supported. So far this and my old printer are the only two things. So I don't think I'd get much help on that one...plus, they tend to know hardware more than software (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I would try talking to someone like yourself who has more knowledge with building custom computers and who has the knowledge of being an administrator.try going to http://www.windrivers.com and chat with one of the experts online over there and see if they help you out.

I'm sorry for the awfully slow response to this thread.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything else to offer. Since e-License is a ViaTech product that isn't in any way related to the OOTP game, we can't really offer much else, and I haven't come across this particular issue.

Thanks,

Steve
