Can't install, Help :(

So I downloaded the demo to try it out before buying the game, but I couldn't even get the download to begin. I get the following message:

I'd appreciate if someone could tell me what I need to do to get this to install properly.

This sounds like something is very hosed.

I would recommend downloading a fresh copy of the game from here and trying again...

Derek,

Do you have administrator rights on this machine?

Have you installed any other versions of the game successfully? (I noticed you posting about features in another thread?)

I must confess, I've never seen this before.

The feature post was posted because of something I noticed in an online league.

Yes I have admin rights, It is my personal PC. I have installed previous versions, as a matter of fact I run a league with 6.5...

I quite confused here as well... I'll love to test out the game and then eventually purchase it, but without being able to install it, I'm left clueless.

Derek,

Can you give me the file name and size (in bytes) of the setup program you are trying to run?

Thanks,

Steve

Having looked after the installers for Sports Interactive for many years (although not any more) I've never seen this issue. I'll do some research now (if you can answer some of the q's above it would be handy!)

ootp2006_setup

Size: 33.5 MB (35,231,317 bytes)
Size on disk: 33.6 MB (35,241,984 bytes)

I assume this is what you are asking for. If I misinterpreted you, I'll be sure to properly answer your question soon.

Thanks for attempting to help guys.

Yep, but that didn't help.

Are there any other versions of the game on your machine? I don't mean 6.5, I mean other versions of OOTP 2006?

Can you try booting into Safe Mode and installing it?

How, specifically, are you launching the program? Double-clicking?

Thanks,

Steve

Have looked into this and cannot see anything at support.installshield.com to go along with this.

I would recommend deleting the install file you downloaded. Download and Install the latest version of Windows Installer:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Clear your cache for internet explorer (or whatever browser you use). Re download the install file from the link battists posted above.

See if this works.

Ok to respond to both...

I tried safe mode, and get the same error message... I tried uninstalling my windows installer and installing the newest version (which is the version I had anyway) to no luck, same message.

Basically I've tried everything suggested.

Do I have any other versions of the setup.exe on my computer? No.

What sucks too is that if I'm going to miss out on the discounted rate, because I can't get this thing to work and try, and surely it wouldn't be smart to buy it if I can't get it to download ...

Oh, and yes, I'm attempting to install it by double clicking... Though I've also tried right clicking and choosing open.

Are there any good installer programs out there that people know of that I might be able to use? Preferably free ones?

Derek,

I really, really wish I could come up with something else to suggest right now. At this point, I'm pretty much at a loss.

It's doubly strange to me that it's not crashing or anything, it's just bringing up this weird dialog box. I assume that when you hit "OK" it just ends, correct?

Why don't you try this from Start|Run?

ootp2006_setup.exe /s (be sure to include the full path for where the file is saved right now, like c:\temp\ootp2006_setup.exe /s)

I don't have any confidence that this will work, I just saw the /s option in your screenshot that says "hide initialization dialog". I don't even know if the .exe will take that switch, but why not try?

The /s switch thing didn't work

I run XP Pro with service pack 2 in. All my updates are completely up to date.

I did find one similar error on the web and the only solution was to reinstall Windows. Basically it sounds like your Windows Installer is corrupted. If downloading the new version didn't work, I really can't think of what else you can do.

Before I'd do that, I'd consider UNINSTALLING Windows Installer (if that's possible), running some sort of registry cleaner program like EasyCleaner, and then reinstalling a fresh copy.

Assuming that last time, you simply ran the installer over your existing copy.

Another thing you could do is try to rollback to a restore point. I'm guessing something you installed accidentally messed with the installer at some point.

So I've come to find out that a very good friend of mine had this same problem with a brand new computer he bought, when he tried to install Itunes. I went over his house to look at it, SAME message I get. So I went ahead and tried to install Itunes on this computer, and I get the error. SAME one.

On the front of uninstalling Windows installer. That was actually the route i went, I didn't just overwrite it. I'll try downloading this easycleaner program though.

Again though, I do want to thank you guys for attempting to help.
