Bio from the boardgame
116(27)-30-6
Welterweight Champion from 1951-1954. Ranks in the top 10 all-time welterweights. A colorful, exciting performer who was one of the best when the spirit moved him. He often needed to be pushed, becoming lackadaisical when facing an opponent who wasn't top caliber. A hard man to stop, Gavilan could box or slug. His bolo punch excited the crowds and he was quite a showman. The Kid was never knocked out in his career even though he was only 151 pounds. And this record was compiled against middleweights, too, when after running out of opponents in his own division, he went up to fight the middles.
