More save issues?
I'm in spring training and my StartingPitcher went 4 and 1/3 IP and got the win (which apparently is OK cuz there's an exception to the 5 IP win rule in exhibition games), but my reliever who went 4 and 2/3 IP and finished the game didn't get anything. Shouldn't he have gotten a save by the "3 IP" save rule? Or is that rule different in exhbition games as well?
Screenshot attached. Our team was leading the entire game and had the lead when Haynes left. Final score was 7-3. Last edited by hefalumps; 06-17-2006 at 05:14 PM. |

Bump... can anyone explain from baseball rules why Krivda didn't qualify for a save under the "last three IP" rule?

According to the rules it should have been a save -- but I'm not sure if that is different during spring training. I read the rule at mlb.com and it didn't give any exceptions for exhibition games.

I've heard around here that in Spring Training games, they give the win to the starter ignoring the 5 IP rule, probably because in ST starters rarely go 5 IP and its expected.

I think I remember reading that if a pitcher throws more than half a game, he can't be awarded with a save... In this case, he threw 1 out over half...

Here is a link to MLB's rule 10 (The Official Scorer Rule)
http://baseball-almanac.com/rule10.shtml Rule 10.20 in particular is where the save criteria is spelled out. Now the only way this pitcher did not qualify for a save is if somehow the game's "official scorer" deemed his performance "ineffective". Now I would classify this as a bug given the pitcher met all of the criteria for a save. |

Sorry for the late response. This may have already been fixed, but I logged it all the same, TT # 2266.
Thanks, Steve |
