Game is very slow loading....
I just purchased 2006, and when I open the game it will sometimes take up to 15 minutes just to load. My computer is only about a year and a half old...Pentium III, plenty of hard disk space. It always seem to pause at around 61%. I checked my process and the system idle is 90+% before I try and open the game.
Any ideas? I am getting very tired of it!

You make no mention of how much memory (RAM) you have in your PC, what is the amount? And the size of your league?

Sorry...I have 2.0GB of RAM. I am not sure what the size of the league has to do with it. It takes that long just to open the game. Before I even try and import any league files etc....But if you are talking total teams, then it is 28. Not sure about file sizes.

Well, it shouldn't take that long, period. Have you tried uninstalling, defragging, and reinstalling? Is your hard drive active during loading? What else is running? Messenger? Anti-virus? Various Norton Utilities?

First of all, the problem with slow loading of the software is endemic to both OOTP and the Football Manager series from SI. I know that the problem with Football Manager is that it loads a lot of configuration files for custom skins, graphcis, and so on. If you customize your game and add a ton of logos, player photos, and all the rest, it can cause even slower loading.
But OOTP doesn't seem to have those configuration files for the most part. However, it still loads slowly (just like other SI games) compared to any other software I've ever used. I've used SI products on at least a half dozen machines, all with medium to very high specs. It's the same with every machine. I get faster loads with PhotoShop and other software that does a lot of preloading of files and configurations, while SI beats them all with that awful black logo scren and the painfully slow load times. However, I will say that I've never had 15-minute wait. I've had wait times of about a minute to a minute and a half for OOTP, and I've had wait times of about the same for Football Manager. |

HackySax,
I'm sorry to jump into this thread after so long, but were you ever able to resolve this issue? Obviously, 15-minute load times are not expected, so I suspect there's something else going on here. In addition to what the others mentioned, I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the game from scratch. Please let us know! Steve |

We have a rule that states that Tech Support threads wherein we have not received a response within 7 days will be closed.
This one meets this criteria, so I'm closing this. If you want to discuss it again, just PM me with the thread link, and I'll re-open. (Don't just say "Hey, reopen my thread." I need to know the URL, thanks!) Steve |
