Okay...I give up!

I have been trying to play this game since it came out and have been faithfully patching it to the latest build. I have set up a league starting with the 1962 season and have made numerous attempts to play through a season, all failing. I can set up the league and have made it through to numerous parts of the season, the longest one being about 30 games played for each team. These are with playing and saving games.
My problem comes at various times when loading up a saved game I get the message:
"OOTP6.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
This has happened at least 10 times and when it happens I lose my season. I had started making backups but these still are bare and I lose most of my season. I have started the season over completely 3 times and this continues to happen. I've had it and give up. I love OOTP but I guess the only baseball I'll be able to play is on the stable Puresim 2007.

I'm with you.

Through a great deal of patience, patching and uninstalling-reinstalling I made it through three seasons. Now after d/l the last patch I can't get past the owners meetings at the beginning of the fourth. I get the same error message as you. In additon, no one has yet to give me a satisfactory reason as to why changes are made or items are selected or unselected at random. I have always eliminated inter-league play but still get it. I give a pitcher a certain pitch by selecting it under the edit window and even after saving, the box is no longer selected when I look again. (Am I doing something wrong?) Those are just a couple of problems I have been having.

I would imagine that most people do not have problems, but reading the forums there seem to be a lot who do. I read in those same forums where guys are hoping that Markus is starting to work on OOTP07, well with all due respect, I'd like to see the 06 version fixed and working better with roster updates for 07 and then a new version for 08; give them more time to add, perfect, etc. I know it's about money but as of right now I will think twice about shelling out any on an 07 version. Worse comes to worse, I'll just go back to the 6.5 version. Never had problems with that.

Guys I had the same issues with last years issue of the game. I eventually was told to erase the game 100%. Then re-D/L everything again. It worked for me.
I wish I could be more helpful but that's my suggestion.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I have tried that, I think. I have erased every aspect of the game from the computer including patches but did save my on going seasons. If I erase that, and lose all three previous seasons, you think the game will run better?

Yes, that will probably help. Please rename the current "OOTP Baseball 2006" directory into for example "OOTP Baseball 2006 BACKUP". Then install the latest version and just test it. You can copy your seasons over to the "OOTP Baseball 2006" directory anytime from the backup directory.

BTW when the game crashes now it's obviously a problem that this game has with the OS, the hardware, or other programms running in the background on your computer. It shouldn't crash, of course, but it runs very well on several 1000 computers, so if it crashes, it's a rare problem that has something to do with your computer. So it's important for us to know if it runs other programs stable. Please try to close all programs that are running in the background, and see if it works then. How many RAM do you use? Which CPU? Which OS version?

All other programs seem to run fine. Word, Quicken and the three other games that are played on it: Madden Football games, Eastside Hockey and Age of Empire series all play fine. I am not sure I understand your question about how much Ram is used but I do know with background programs and OOTPB 06 running only there is only between 15% and 18% CPU Usage, if that helps.

I had a similar problem, and posted frequently about it on these forums.

I was told to completely uninstall (difficult, since the program was not showing up in the Add/Remove Programs in my main user profile) and start from scratch.

I did that, and have been happily playing ever since...continuing the same save game I was playing before the problems began.

Versions and file get corrupted. You just need to step back and start over.

It's been a while since anyone has posted in this thread. Were you ever able to get this working smoothly? I was going to close this out, since Andreas had responded in the thread, but I thought I'd give one last shout here to see if anyone still wants to talk about it...

Thanks,

Steve

Sley, any chance you could FTP the files to SI's site, using these instructions?

I'm not Andreas, so I'm not sure where he's hoarding your files. Just let me know your file name...

Yep, you just have to tell me the name of the zip file, so I know which file to grab...

Sley,

I spent some time looking at this league. I'm not the developer, but I suspect that something is corrupted in this league that is causing these problems. We've seen that happen, unfortunately, sporadically, with leagues that were created in an earlier version, and were upgraded several times.

On the other hand, I never ran into a problem with the owner's meeting. I did run into some other problems that were big issues in earlier patch releases, such as one team running out of pitchers.

Anyway, I guess my point is, I don't believe there's anything I can do for your game file at this point. But, I am hopeful that the same sort of configuration as you currently have would be stable if you started again from scratch.

I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful.

Thanks for your time and for being so prompt. I think my son and I will just go back to using the older version of the game since he has never had any problems with that. I don't think I'd trust the 06 version not to do the same thing again down the line even if we do start from scratch. Sure seems like a waste of our time and money, and your time trying to help as well. I doubt we'll be future customers but I hope others have fun playing. Also as I said in an earlier post, I'd like to see the problems in the 06 version rectfied and an 07 version passed on with maybe just roster updates for the 06 game and then come out with an improved version for 08. But I know it's about money. Just my two cents. Thanks again......

I understand your decision, and I'm very sorry we weren't able to resolve the issue. We'll keep working on the product, and perhaps you can give us a try again next year.

Good luck!
