Players traded are released immediately
Ok, I don't know if this belongs in Tech Support, Mods/Rosters, or here. But, I'll post it here and see what happens.
I'm in an online league using Rolen's newest roster set (Jan 2nd). We have had a number of trades that were processed by the commissioner on his computer. As soon as these trades were processed, the players involved were released into the FA pool and there was no record of the trade OR the release. We have set every team in every league to NOT allow AI roster moves. Has anyone else seen this? Are we missing something? Is this a known issue with custom rosters that I haven't seen any posts about? Just a note, I am in a second league with that same commissioner using a league created by a database and we haven't had any wierd AI roster moves happen. |

Hi. I'm the commish and let me explain what I did to process the trade. Obviously I am logged in as the commissioner. In order to do the trade, I have to "act" as one of the teams. I set up the players involved and pressed the force trade button. Trade processed.
I have processed a number of trades prior to this latest one without any problems. But in this latest trade I processed, the players, instead of going to the team's DFA were released to the free agent pool. There is no recording of the trade in the transactions or the release of the players. When this occurred in a previous version of this roster set, it was because (at least I believe) I had not gone through every single level in our universe and set the "don't allow AI to do roster moves". I had set it for the majors and assumed it would carry down to all levels. I was wrong to assume that. So, with this current version of the league file, I went to every single level and set that setting so the AI will not make any roster moves for any teams. I assumed that would keep this issue from happening again. I was wrong. I appreciate any input into this. I'm pretty frustrated that this has happened. Dan

Thanks. I have posted about this on the test league site, and f.montoya was able to reproduce the problem. Here is a link to that thread:

Do the players still show their old contracts even when in the FA pool? Were these players all on the major league roster or where they in the minors?
Just trying to pinpoint what's causing this. There has to be something unique about these players. In the meantime, you can still assign these players to the proper teams through the player editor. |

The players in the trade that I was involved in came from the minors, but this happened in more than one trade, and I don't know the specifics of the other trades, but I'm pretty sure there were some major leaguers invovled. They didn't have their contracts they were full blown FA's, and never even made it to the DFA.

Hmmm...haven't tried this, but is it possible to act as one team to initiate the trade and then act as the other team to accept it? Doesn't solve the problem, but maybe a workaround in the meantime.

were these trades with AI teams?
Did more than one team submit a trade for the same player? This has happened to me on several occassions... not sure if its purely AI team related. But I had 2 human teams submit a trade for a player on a AI team... both teams reported that they had the AI GM saying "good deal". upon export and the trade being processed... no mention of the trade was listed anywhere... some players made it to their new team... some didnt... some were released.... so far no more problems have happened when I restricted teams from making trade proposals through exports |

BTTF LeAGE HAS SAME pROBLEMS
The BTTF League has had similar problems. I process a trade and then sim the next day and the players are releaed to free agency.
This is a serious bug. And my owners are getting upset as well. |

This could be a killer, and would demand an immediate patch regardless of plans not to.

You have to turn off the AI for every level for every team to completely shut down the really bad AI as far as online leagues go. This is the only way that our league "fixed" the game dropping traded players. If you do a search in the forum, there's a thread about how to do this. You need to first shut down the minor league AI at each level (in game setup for each level) and then the major league AI. Do this for every team and the problem goes away.
Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier because it almost closed our league as well.

unforunately, we did that once we noticed it was a major problem, and yet, it happened again. Although, I'm not sure if the commish did the minor leagues BEFORE the majors, that could be the issue, but why would they have to be done in that order? I'll do a search and see if I can figure out why.

Well, at least it appears there's a solution for this one.

I still don't know if this is a solution, because, like I said we had the AI roster management off on every level. I don't see why doing it in a certain order would matter, but, I'm going to give this a try when I have time and see if it works.

in my league we have no minor leagues.. since the game will create fictional players for teams who dont have enough players at a certain level.
we just have the "reserve" roster that handles the overflow of players greater than 25 on active. this still happened... this isnt a pure AI thing in game that is releasing players. If it were recroded in the history I could see it... but the game is merely...allowing some players to swap and others just end up in the free agent pool.. they were not released by the AI. no hope on a patch man... they seem content with just saying they will fix it in the next retail release... and not offer any kind of discount on the new game since the bugs in 2006 version leave the game almost dead... and therefore probably just charge us another 35 bucks to fix what should have been fixed for free. my payment of 35 bucks for 2006 was for the features advertised... which do not work correctly. |

I agree with you that this is a problem. I don't, however, agree that this is a "dead" game. I still get a lot of enjoyment out of it, and I have only seen this issue in the one online league I was in. Hopefully this issue is fixed in the next release.

I can confirm that this has happened in my league as well. The player was in the minors and was part of a trade but was released instead of sent to the new team.
This needs to be fixed asap. I hope no one at SI or OOTP is going to just let this slide cause it's a serious problem, |
