I had a fire...
I had a fire at my house & my computer did not make it. I bought another computer & re-downloaded the trial version, but I don't know where/how to put in my activation code.

I have my activation code, but when I try to enter the code the game asks me for a serial number first...where do I find the serial number?

I purchased the game, entered the activation code and put it on my PC. I lost my PC in the fire. However, I still had the code saved in an email. I have purchased a new Mac computer. I downloaded the trial version of the game and put it on the Mac. When I open the trial version there is a "button" at the bottom that says "activate game". When I select this option the game asks me for the serial number. I don't know what the serial number for the game is. I tried entering my activation code as the serial number, but it did not work. I'd love to send you a screen shot, but I didn't know how to do that on my PC, let alone my brand new Mac!

Unfortunately, Mac version serial numbers and PC version serial numbers are not compatible with each other. (They have different licenses, administered by different companies.) As I see it, you have three choices: 1) You can write to SI Games and ask them if there's anything they can do to cancel your PC license and give you a Mac license. They're not really under any obligation to do so, though, so be polite and don't get too hacked off if there's nothing they can or will do. 2) If you are running an Intel Mac, you can install Boot Camp, which will enable your computer to boot in Windows as well as Mac. (It's not super-hard to install, but you will need a copy of Windows XP SP2.) Once your Windows partition is up and running, you can install the PC version of OOTP and run it with your license. 3) You can register the OOTP Mac version. Sorry I don't have better news...

Yeah, cmdrovrbite pretty much nailed it. The two versions of the game are licensed separately, which means you cannot use the PC license you purchased to install on a Mac, or vice-versa.
I'm not an SI employee, but I don't believe that SI would allow you to "change licenses," simply because of the different licensing companies that they work with for the two products. You're welcome to try, but as cmdrovrbite mentioned, it's not very likely. So, the other options cmdroverbite mentioned are about what you're faced with right now. Thanks, Steve |
