Why must 'out of option year' players clear waivers coming out of Spring Training????

Why must 'out of option year' players clear waivers coming out of Spring Training that is before start of the regular season?

I emptied my 40 man roster to the Spring Training Depth charts after reading that it would not count against their service time. But now, when I want to make the “cut” down to 25, prior to the start of the regular season, the players I’m sending down to AAA who are out of option years have to clear waivers. Does this happen in real life?

Yes, I do believe this happens in real life. If a player is brought to spring training and is out of options, he either must make the team, be placed on waivers, or is released. I know this happened with the White Sox Joe Borchard before last season. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Seems a bit unfair, (from the team's point of view) but then again most 40 man rosters get filled just before the season starts. If someone wants my guy(s) they will likely have to kick somebody off (waiver) themselves.

There may be an answer I'm overlooking, but I'm wondering why - in my league set to No Service Times - some players with all options remaining are put on waivers before Spring Training when electing roster moves. This one still puzzles me. Bug? Goodsox, maybe TT this?

Yeah, The Jays lost Quiroz to Seattle after ST in 2006. Part of the game.

ive been told that all players out of options, whether they are on the 40-man or not, must clear waivers, every offseason.

No, this is just a system limitation. In real life, players do not have to join a team's 40-man or major league roster in order to participate in major league Spring Training. The game seems to treat the Spring Training rosters like expanded rosters in September.
