Unearned Run Problem
Situation: Runners on first and third, one out. The batter singles to CF, scoring the runner from third. THe runner on first makes the turn at 2nd and tries for third. The CF comes up with the ball, firing to third, obviously oblivious to the fact that it is impossible to throw a runner out at 3rd, and the throw goes over the thirdbaseman's head and into the dugout. The runner moving to third scores and is appropriately scored as an unearned run. The batter, because the throw wentout of play, is correctly awarded two bags and ends up at 3rd. The next batter hits a sac fly to LF, scoring the runner from third. The next batter grounds out, third out of inning. This final run that scored should be an unearned run also since he moved into scoring position and subsequently scored because of an error and because there was no hits following that would have otherwise scored him.

I am confused. How many runs were scored as unearned?
Based on your example, it is possible only one run should be unearned. |
