Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error when attempting to start saved league/new league/quickstarts

Specs
OOTP 2007
Dell Dimension 4600
Windows XP 2000
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 - updated drivers (supports open GL 100%)

I have been setting up my fictional league for about a week now and have been creating new quickstarts after progressing the league to getting all of the specs to my satisfaction (uniforms, caps, logos, team colors, etc...). Along the way, I have been testing a similar league and saving the game periodically. The test league is stripped completely except for FaceGen. No uniforms, logos, etc..... I've gotten about 20 season done so far.

All of a sudden, yesterday I recieved a runtime error when loading up the most recent quickstart. It now happens each and every time I attemt to upload any of the quickstarts,my saved game, and my world templates. The error comes up within a few seconds when loading the saved game, but occurs at the very end of the loading process of the quickstart. For the templates, it happens almost immediately as well: The error reads as below:

Microsoft Visual C++ RunTime Library

Runtime error!

Program:\...files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\OOTP2007.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

In addition to that, the following error has popped up in several but not all instances after the runtime error:

McShield.exe - Application error

The instruction at "0X7c80976f" referenced at "0X00000600." The memory could not be "written"

Kindly advise.

mcshield.exe is the McAfee On-Access Antivirus Scanner, it will definately be greedy for CPU time if it's running behind OOTP & maybe that is a trigger for this crash.

Thanks, Killebrew.

Perhaps, but McAfee has always been running in the backround on my pc and this is the first time this has occurred. I ran OOTP 2006 for a year without incident, and was running 2007 for two weeks as well. I will disable it when I get home tonight, but I think that there's is something more to it than that and am hoping this can be looked into further.

You are absolutely correct, just thinking this might have contributed to the initial crash. The followup crashes are a different matter, maybe some kind of corrupted game file (throwing tech support darts at the board there). Hopefully someone here has experience with this kind of issue.

I strongly suggest to disable the virus scanner software for the complete OOTP /data directory (in My Documents/SI.../OOTP.../)

This will also increase the speed of the game.

ChuckkieB, please make a backup of the complete folder My Documents/Sports Interactive/OOTP BVaseball 2007/ (assuming that's your user data folder). Then uninstall the game and install it again. Does it work now? If it does, copy your files back into the OOTP data path, but step by step. Copy for example a saved game league folder and try to open it.
Please let us know how it worked.

Andreas, I disabled Mcafee and it did not resolve the issue. The same error is still occurring. In addition the same error, in certain instances, the game now gets hung up while loading up the quickstart.

I will re-install the game when I get home tonight. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

No, not at all. If the game starts w/o problems after re-installing it, and still doesn't want to open your old quick start games and saved-games, then please send me one of these quick start games (see FAQ about how to FTP files to us)

We have a rule in Tech Support that says that requests that have gone more than 3 days awaiting a response from the customer will be closed. This thread fits that bill, so I'm going to go ahead and marked this issue as "closed."

If you disagree, please let us know, it's no problem to re-open this. It's an administrative thing we do to try to ensure that only active issues are being researched.

Thanks very much!
