Permanently turning off LicCtrl Service (RunService.exe)

I try to run a very clean installation of Windows XP, so I turn off as many background services as I can. Except for being needed to initially license (and I assume unlicense) OOTP 2007, I can't see any other need for this service. Even when I set the service (LicCtrl Service) to Disabled and restart my machine, it continues to load at startup, and reset itself to Automatic.

1) Is there any need for this service other than licensing the game?

2) How do I configure the service so that it no longer resets itself or loads when I boot up?

Thanks in advance!

Runservice.exe is just going to re-open every time you run an eLicensed game anyway.

Amusingly, when I tested this, the memory footprint of the .exe tripled. It was ~500K before I terminated it, and now it's sitting ~1600K. I'm gonna have to reboot now.

You're probably better off leaving it alone.

Probably by unchecking the item from the services tab of the window you get by running msconfig.

I don't really know the difference between "services" and startup programs though so if someone wants to shed some light on that it'd be great.

Unfortunately, for more information about this, you would need to work with e-License directly, since this is part of their licensing system.

About the best I can offer is to visit them at http://www.elicense.com/ and see if they can provide any better information.

Thanks very much!
