Minor League Playoffs

I did a search of the logged issues and did not see anything. While managing in the rookie league I went to a one game playoff and won the divison but did not get into the playoffs, the second place team went. I got promoted to the single A team after the season, but was bummed about not getting a chance to win the title.

Can you give some details about the playoff settings for that league and post the final standings? There were some issues like that in 2006, but I hadn't seen any so far this year...

Basically I tied with Great Falls and went to a one game playoff which I won. When the playoffs were announced they were in and I was out. I made no changes to the default settings.

Ah, the Pioneer League in the default MAL setup? That's a split-season league, and I can only speculate that that has something to do with it. Tough to tell though without the first-half standings.

Can you please verify if the league was using a split-season format?

If it wasn't, then this is indeed a bug and I will log it in.

There might still be a bug though even in split-season format, namely:

Faaip's team tied for the full-season lead, but was 2nd or worse in each half-season = the one-game playoff shouldn't have happened, and him being out of the playoffs was probably correct.

I've tried to sim a few seasons, but it's been slow going because of the need to write down the first-half standings every time, and in about 30 division races simmed I didn't luck into a full-season tie yet despite a shortish season. I'll keep trying...

I did notice that even if under split season, something was amiss with the one game playoff. The game also does the same thing when in one division format and with playoffs disabled.

However, is the game not displaying the first half winners on the standings page? Under the split-season format, you will see a team listed at the bottom as "1st Half Winners".

If that question was directed at me - yes they are, but that doesn't help if you're trying to figure out whether the second-half winner was chosen correctly; you need every team's first-half record for that, not just the leader's.

BTW, any chance Markus could tell us what the half-season winner tie-breakers are? I've seen a bunch of first-half ties in my test sims, and I couldn't see any obvious pattern in how the winners were picked (i.e. it's apparently not head-to-head record, result of the first or last game played among tied teams, record within the division, alphabetical order, or anything else I could think of).

I see what you mean now.

I posted about that during beta. I also posted up the proper rules used in the minor leagues to resolve such things (and it can get a bit complicated depending on whether or not there are any off days between the first and second halves).

But I don't think any of it was coded in. I suspect it simply wasn't considered a priority to tidy up something which could be considered mostly cosmetic compared to other issues.

I'd be happy enough if it was at least consistent (heck, use team batting average or something else that's reasonably "tie-proof"), but right now it appears to be pretty random, unless Markus did sneak in a tie-breaker and I'm just not smart enough to figure out its nature.

At any rate, despite that issue, split-season leagues seem to work vastly better than in v2006, which makes me happy as an indy-ball nut. But I fear I've hijacked this thread now, so I'll give it a rest and maybe the OP will make a reappearance about his issue soon...

Faaip, since we haven't heard back from you in some time, I am closing this thread. If you need any further help with it, please ask a moderator to re-open it. Thanks.
