Mac Try & Buy install problem

I'm trying to install the Try & Buy on my Mac. Shortly after pressing the "Install" button, the installer quits and gives me the message, "There were errors installing the software." and "Please try installing again."

I've tried reinstalling, rebooting and reinstalling, redownloading and reinstalling, and redownloading, rebooting, and reinstalling and nothing has worked thus far.

I'm using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.4.9.

Any suggestions?

PotatoPeeler, Are you using all default settings when installing, or are you changing any settings?

I have to admit, I'm at a loss. I just installed a fresh copy on a different mac, and it worked just fine. Hmm. One difference is that I already own a license. I'll give installing it as a demo a try, and see how that turns out.

Have you tried repairing disk permissions or otherwise tried running a drive repair utility on the drive?

dola,

It'd be really nice if it would give me a more descriptive error message.

Is your OS X user account an admin account?

How much free space do you have on the drive?

Did the installer act like it went through the whole installation successfully and then only gave you the error at the very end or did it halt at some point in the progress bar and if so, at what point?

1. No, my account is not and admin account.
2. I have 30 GB of free space.
3. The progress bar only made it a slight fraction of the way before it failed. It takes about 5 seconds to get kicked out of the installation.

Also, I've tried running as an administrator and now luck that way either.

Do you have an OOTP Baseball 2007 folder in the applications folder?
Do you have a sports interactive folder at user/yourname/librairies/preferences/?

If so delete them.

Before trying again.

Check to see if the application folder is Owner: system with read write access.

and that the user/yourname/librairies/preferences is Owner: Yourname with read write access.

Check all that and it was okay. Tried another install and it still failed.

Bizarre.

Do you have other user session open?
Did you try installing it somewhere else like the desktop?
Who is the owner of the downloaded OOTP file and what are the permissions.

Are you able to copy the content of the .dmg file? If so, did you try installing from the copie?

I figured it out. Turns out that the installer's default installation location is the root of my hard drive. It's pretty stupid that I didn't notice that until now but it's also pretty stupid that that's the default.

So then I tried to install it in the applications folder and that didn't work either. Got the same error as before. So I created an applications directory under my users home directory and the installation worked fine.

However, I hate having my programs scattered all around like that so I logged in as my admin account and installed it in the main applications folder and that worked just fine.

I sure would be nice if the installer would have actually told me what the problem was. I wouldn't have wasted so much of my and everyone else's time with this.

Anyway, thanks for the help, guys!
