Dollar Discrepancy

Last season my team turned quite a profit, so I decided to use some of it to fill a couple holes through free agency. Signed a couple top-notch guys, and the GM said I still had $5 mil or so as cushion. Then I went to make some trades, and the game won't let me trade for anything but equal or lesser salaries because it says I'm $15 mil in the hole. Go back to free agents, still $5 mil on the plus side. Eventually, I have to dump a ton of salary to get the flexibility I need. Currently, I have $24 mil to use for free agents, but can't trade for a player making $1.8.

I believe the overriding number here is that "Proj. Budget Room", which means you only can take on additional payroll of up to $1,078,600.

But why can I spend $24 mil on free agent signings? (And I really can. I just traded away $20 mil or so in salaries to get to the $1 mil positive payroll position--after spending $20 mil for free agents.)

Ovccsteve, are you seeing this behavior using the beta patch?

Do you see this same discrepancy at all points during the season, or does it change between the off-season and regular season? More specifically, does the amount of money you have left on the table as free agent offers account for the difference?

I'm not using the beta. This is the first time I've encountered (or noticed) the issue in limited playing time. So far, I noticed it in November/December, have played to Spring Training, and there is still a $23M discrepancy between what I can spend on free agents and what salaries I can acquire in trade. My team last year turned a huge profit and I wonder if that is causing the issue. I started last season $3 Mil in the hole and ended up with $23M in the bank.

Please go to Free Agents and click on the Pending Offers tab. Do you have any offers on the table? Do those dollar amounts add up to the discrepancy?

No pending offers. Matter of fact, I signed about $20M in free agents, then had to trade away that much salary to get my flexibility back.

Hrm. Before the beta patch release, I know that money offered to free agents who signed with other teams was being tied up in the system. Could you have made about $23M worth of offers previously in the off-season to players who signed with other teams?

I only made two offers, one to each player I signed.
