Reserve Clause with Unaffiliated Minor League Teams

Setup: Major League, AAA, Rookie League. I added a major league team and then changed it to an unaffiliated minor league team. Any player hereonafter with a Major league contract had it automatically renewed for the duration of their career. The team also (on occasion) signed new players to major league contracts. Same thing happened to their careers.

I figure this is a bug. Their contracts should expire. It seems the players with minor league contracts become free agents eventually.

Into which league did you move this team? It sounds like you're doing something not intended to be done with the game (if I've understood what you've done correctly).

I moved the major league team into AAA. I suspect, however, that the problem exists with any unaffiliated minor league team that signs a player to a major league contract.

I have experienced the same problem. In OOTP 2006, they became minor league free agents after 6 years of service. In OOTP 2007, they are stuck with the independent minor league team for good.

Has anyone seen this with the current beta patch applied?

This is still a problem after the 2.02 patch based on my experience with my AAA-level Pacific Coast League, which has all unaffiliated teams. It's somewhat aggravating because this WASN'T a problem in OOTP 2006. In 2006, players on unaffiliated minor league teams became free agents after a maximum of 6 years service, sometimes less.

Just to be certain, could you guys check your league setup on the leagues in question and see how many years the free agent eligibility is set to? (Minimum Service Years for Free Agency in the Rules section)
