Another 'User Data File' Issue
Its the basic 'Fatal Application Exit' Error. Unable to open the user data folder. Basically, I can't get past the initial screen with the options for 'purchase, trial etc...' I can't get into the game at all.
I have searched and found all the answers - I have tried all the solutions but I am coming up empty. I am not sure what else to do at this point other than ask for help here. The initial install was sharing the SI folder with OOTP2006. I thought maybe there was a conflict there so I moved it on its own. Currently, it is sitting on my C:/ Yes, I have the patch installed as well. Anyhow, here are my details: Game Version is showing as 2.0.0.0 even though I have installed the patch (The patch says 2 files updated when applied) Windows XP 2002, Service Pack 2 My hard drive has 9.22 GB of available space My C: is not networked. I have honestly searched and found 17 threads of basically the same issue. I have tried all of the things that worked for others, but they are not working for me. I am on the trial version still, as I figured I'd just go about the same as 2006 - Wait for the expiry to come up and then purchase it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is how much drive space you have left after you install? That probably isn't going to be enough to have a stable system. Microsoft recommends 15% free space on your hard drive. Can you clean up your drive?

I can clean it up, but I don't think that is the issue right now (9 GB is actually 25% of my total capacity). My first concern is actually getting up and running.

you don't think 9 gigs is enough to run a fair size leage, while OOTP is a huge program you should be able to run a good league in 9 gigs.

That's not what I am saying at all. I am talking about overall system stability.

OK, just read through it again. You say the version # hasn't changed so the patch must not have been applied then. I'm not sure if you can patch the trial or if you even need to until after you purchase.

You should uninstall your copy and download and install the latest version. Moving folders manually doesn't work for most programs
![]() 9 GB free space is OK for Windows AFAIK. |

I have actually reinstalled 5 times now, trying 3 different locations within my C. I have downloaded the program 3 times today. First time it went directly into the existing Sports Interactive folder, creating a 2007 directory. Second time I created a new folder within C Third time I created another new folder within C The other times I moved folders around, copied and pasted etc... I'm going to try at home tonight and see if that doesn't work. I'll update this thread tonight or tomorrow about the home results. As for now, I might just do a full install from start and leave it that way until someone has a definitive answer. I'm usually quite good at manipulating my machine but I'm kind of stuck on this one... |

Is it possible that its a flaw within the demo? If I just go ahead and purchase would that eliminate the problem? I know that seems way to easy and isn't a reasonable conclusion...but maybe?

No, that probably won't fix your problem, unless ... have you tried running the demo without patching it? I'm not sure that patching the demo works right.

Can I just mention that that "Microsoft-approved" 15% number smacks of cargo cultism to me? I'm habitually running my system with 3% free disk space and less (and I've done so on various systems and OS'es since back in the DOS 6.22 days), and it runs perfectly fine as long as it's properly defragmented.

I suggest you uninstall the game and delete all the folders. Attention: delete these folders as well:
My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007 Application Data\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007 (you find this one if you open the Windows Start menu, click on "Run", enter %appdata% and hit Enter) Then install the try and buy version again. Always install into the same folder, I suggest you use the default folder. |

Well, I went home and tried the install there. Same OS as I have here at work.
It works at home so the issue must lie somewhere within my machine and I'll keep playing with it. I'll post again whether I figure it out or not. Thanks |

Here is where I am at - Same problems as yesterday. Anyway, what I think may be the issue is the registration. I registered it yesterday, but it was different info than my last registration (When I installed at home, the registration fields were filled in already which I provided for 2006). So, I'm wondering if that might be the issue?
Upon further attempts to install, I don't get prompted to register because of the trial expiration I'm guessing. It has a system cookie/tracer which prevents the abuse of the trial period, right? So, is there any way for the registration form to be reset? Right now, the option doesn't come up... |

At work, is your My Documents folder on a network drive? Unfortunately that doesn't work.

Its my C: drive, which is not networked or even shared. Do I need to share it? I'll try sharing my C: but if its not that (probably isn't), I'm still stuck without a clue.
I need the game to be functional at work because at home my dialup is so slow that I can't import/export for my online leagues. What is so different between this install and ootp2006 install? |

Perhaps a silly question, but maybe there's a user account problem, i.e. OOTP for whatever reason is looking for its data in the My Documents folder of a different user than where it installed its stuff?

Above post, I'm not sure what you mean. I am the only user on this computer and mine is the only profile so I'm not quite sure...
I'm just at a complete loss as I really have tried all the 'fixes' suggested with this techboard. I don't even know what to ask at this point? |
