No data found - error

After I mistakenly configured the location of my data files, I can no longer start up the game and get the following error message:

No Data Found.

The user data file cannot be found. Please re-install OOTP Baseball 2007.

I un-installed a few times and removed the folders, etc and still get the same message when i try to restart. Advice?

You need to copy the dat files over to the location of your data files.

It explains in detail on how to do this in the manual. (sorry, don't have it handy)

That did the trick--esentially I copied and pasted all of the files that weren't duplicates to the location I had specified...and when the game actually start up and allow me to access preferences i switched the location of the files back...thanks!

I'm trying to install the game onto a second comptuer and am having the same problem. Where exactly is the "user data" folder that can't be opened and where are the .dat files to put in there? I tried copying the .dat files that I found in the "quickstart_games" folder into what I thought was the main OOTP one but I got the same message so I'm not really sure what the answer to this puzzle is. I tired looking through the manual but couldn't find the answer so if someone has the direct page of where this is..please let me know. I need a pretty detailed to solution to all this.

Thanks to anyone who responds.

Actually, I just found a possible solution in the FAQ's section under "How to move game data off of a network drive". Giving it a try and will report back for the other fellow who wasn't sure what to do.

Nope..I still get that message. Does anybody have any other solutions or is this pretty much an impossible task?

Thanks again!

The dat files are in My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data by default...the folder it's complaining about is probably the one you specified in OOTP's Preferences screen which should hold those dat files but doesn't.

In case you can't remember what path you've entered there and the game doesn't even let you get that far to check, open a command prompt (Start Menu -> Run) and enter

%appdata%\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\config

which should pop open a folder that includes a file named "paths". Open that in any text editor and it should show something like

path_user_data
F:\OOTP Baseball 2007\data

chocko, si tu as toujours des problemes, je peux essayer de t'aider. Au moins, je peux traduire les messages ci-dessus. Il faut que tu mettes les fichiers qui termine en '.dat' dans l'endroit juste, comme Zeyes a explique.

[chocko- if you are still having problems, I can try to help. At the least, I can translate the messages above. You need to put the files ending in '.dat' in the right location, as Zeyes explains]

Hi Zeyes!

I did all that, saw what you were talking about, and tried copying two different targets that have the .dat files into "paths", but I'm still getting that message. I haven't been able to open up the game even once after each of my installs so I can't even access the OOTP Preference screen. I get that message after clicking on the icon on my desktop.

In that "paths" file, am I supposed to copy and paste the info in the address bar where all that info is located and put it on that second line? I still don't think I'm 100% sure what goes on that second line.

Another problem I think is the .dat files keep going into my network drive (using a work computer) and I can't seem to get it to not go in there. There is a "data" folder in there, and inside that, there is a sub-folder called "quick_start", which has three different sub-folders inside of that "Fictional Five Minor.quick", "Fictional Single.quick" and "StandardMAL.quick". All three of those have many different .dat files (coaches, ethnicities, names, parks, teams, etc.). Are those the ones I'm going after?

When I right-click the icon on my desktop into the Properties, the target field says: "C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\ootp2007.exe" The Start-In field is blank..should something go there?

I hope I am not confusing you too much because I'm pretty computer-stupid as it is. I'm pretty shocked I'm having this problem to begin with because the first computer (albeit my home one) went very smoothly.

That second line in "paths" should be the location of the folder where you want OOTP to keep all its data. So yes, if it currently doesn't list the folder you want, you can just copy the folder path you want from an Explorer window.

At any rate, when we're talking about "dat files", it's really more than that... This is what my data folder looks like:

All those folders (well, most of them) should originally be in the default location I mentioned before (My Documents\ etc), and all of them need to be moved to whatever your desired location is.

If you're unable to find them at the default location anymore and aren't sure where they've gone, I would suggest uninstalling the game. Before you do that, use the %appdata% command from above to open up that config folder...then once the uninstall is finished, delete
all the config files. That ensures that OOTP will place its files in the default location when you re-install the game, so you'll know where to find them, then.

The dat files in the quickstart folders are more or less saved games...they're not the files that OOTP needs to start up, they're what you get while you're playing the game.

I'm not sure about whether you're also running into network drive problems...I would suggest going through with the above steps first, and then we'll go from there. Do make sure that the folder you specify in the "paths" file isn't on a network drive if you can. (I'm presuming you do have access to at least one non-networked drive on your work system...if that's not the case, you may be out of luck altogether. But I'm a layman when it comes to networked systems, so take my comments with a grain of salt here.)

No, that's okay. It will use the correct folder if nothing's there.
