I just don't understand why I'm having so much trouble with names in OOTP.
All I'm trying to do is set up era-specific names. Let's start from the beginning. Step 1. Annihilate all existence of OOTP from the computer. Step 2. Redownload the OOTP install program and install. Step 3. Redownload the patch and upgrade OOTP to the most recent version. Step 4. Open the Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\database folder and copy the files to a backup location. Step 5. Open names.txt and first_names.txt. Modify names at will. Step 6. Start OOTP, set-up league, click "Start Game". Step 7. Go to "Player Search". Find dozens of names that are not in the modified .txt files. Wonder where they are coming from. Step 8. Reimport the names database within OOTP. Step 9. Enter Commissioner mode and click through each wacky name clicking "Regenrate Name" Step 10. Wonder why every other name chosen by OOTP is the same name, and one that has a frequency of "6" when lots of names have much higher frequency. At the same time, wonder why names that have a frequency of "600" never seem to appear through the regenerate function. Step 11. Decide OOTP's handling of the names database is broken, decide not to manually modify hundreds of names one-by-one, decide that maybe OOTP should just be erased permanently and time spent doing something less frustrating. Step 12. Post this message hoping to understand how this issue can be fixed so the Step 11 decision doesn't have to be final. PLEASE, PLEASE help. Why -- why -- why does: 1. Start inaugural leagues with names NOT included in the modified names files? 2. Not seem to honor the frequency settings? (Do names have to be in alphabetical order?) While I'm at it, perhaps you can help with another inaugural league problem. I've set up the game, one major league, one minor league. I set "Created Age Maximum" to 29 for both leagues. I set-up the rest of my league, and click "Start Game". I go to Player Search and find 30-year-olds, 31-year-olds, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36-year-olds. Even 40-year-olds. Wait -- wasn't CREATED AGE MAXIUM 29??? I don't get it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled OOTP at least 3 times. Always the same issue. What in the crikey is going on??? |

Sorry, cbbl, that no one has come up with a solution for you yet. Are you still having trouble with this?
I know that existing universes will include all of the current names used within their universe in their own name database. Did you create a new universe after shutting down the game, replacing your files, and starting it back up before seeing this issue? Were the older players on major league teams? Was this found in a league added to an existing universe or a league created along with a new universe? |
