trouble with license OOTP 8

So the weekend is here and I finally have time to get OOTP 8. I go to webstore by clicking on the link in e-mail. I add version 8 to my cart, I click on the link to get the discount, I enter my license, see the new price, put in my billing information, download, and install.

I'm running Vista on my new laptop and I make sure to "run as administrator". I open up the game and I click on the license button, click on "accept", and paste in the same license that I used to get the discount. I click on the install license and after a few minutes it bounces back to me this error message:

Unable to get or install license.
Retrieval of license failed with error code = 501.
This Order ID was not found on the license servers.
- You may have entered an incorrect Order ID. Please verify that you entered the correct Order ID, and try again.
- The Order ID may not have been registered in the license database yet. Please wait a few minutes and try again.

So, I try cutting and pasting the license again, and then I try typing it in. No dice. So I figure I need to wait a few minutes like the message suggests. Okay, so I run some errands, shovel some snow ( stupid white stuff), and six hours later I try again. Nothing.

I go back to webstore, thinking that maybe I didn't finalize my transaction somehow, and I try to re-eneter my Order ID, and it says that the discount has already been used. So, obviously, everything was finalized the first time.

Hmmm. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Did you actually order it? It uses a different license. You have to put the order through, then get emailed an OrderID. It sounds like you used the same OrderID and didn't put the whole order through.

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but you didn't say anything about placing the order.

How I read it was that he had his order number for OOTP2007 that he used as the discount code for OOTP8 and then tried to use that very same code to license OOTP8.

MrCoach00,

You should have received an email after purchasing with your new order ID for OOTP8. This gives you two licences for 8 without losing your 2007 ones.

I figured he would get the email checking thing anyway, so there was no sense in explaining it and I would go for the harder one. You think because his coupon code no longer worked, that it might be that, but it is also very much possible that he never put the order through.

Elicense doesn't require an order to go through for them to use up a coupon. It goes through the first time you even start to place an order. They also have your bank authorize charges on your debit card or the same with your credit card company, before it even goes all the way through. So one could think, by looking at their online statement that they have been charged and then have their coupon no longer work. I have seen it happen a few times.

What redsoxford describes is what I did. I did not receive an e-mail after purchasing, thus no new Order ID, thus my problem. I guess I am not entirely sure if I purchased it or not. I remember putting in the credit card information and hitting submit, and then the next thing I remember was downloading version 8.

I checked my credit card statement online, but the last transaction it lists was from this past Thursday. It probably won't update until Monday at the earliest. I guess I can wait until early this week to see if I was charged or not.

I guess I'm just bummed that I'm losing out on a weekend of tinkering with the new version. My favorite part of the game is starting new leagues, and the new MLB quick start sounds pretty sweet.

I'll keep you guys posted as to what I find out. Thanks for your help so far!

Okay, I checked on-line today and I was indeed charged $6.99 by VTI*OOTP DEV. So what do I do now? I have OOTP8 dowloaded, my credit card was charged the discount price, but I never received an e-mail or the new licenses.

Help!

Write support@elicense.com with your info and they will be able to assist you. You could also go off their form at http://www.elicense.com. but it can be a pain to deal with. I usually just email them.

I'm not sure what ever happened to the original e-mail, or if there ever was one. But someone else on the board in another thread suggested that I check my spam folder, and the e-mails from the e-license people were being sent there. I have everything I need now.

Thanks for everyone's help!
