Mac - Crash to desktop

Okay - This one might be a bit of an oddball.

I've just upgraded to OOTP8 from OOTP2007. I've also upgraded from a PC (Win 2000) to a Mac (Leopard OS).

So I've transferred over my OOTP2007 league from the PC to OOTP8 on the Mac.

The league seems to be working fine - however when I click on certain players (not all of them - but the odd minor leaguer or someone on the DL) the program simply quits unexpectedly and quits without saving.

Has anyone seen anything like this - could it be a problem from transferring from PC to Mac? Thoughts?

Which version of OOTP 8 are you using? The league ought to run just fine after being copied from one system to the other. You never had any of these problems with OOTP 2007 on the pc?

Never had a problem with this in OOTP2007 on the PC. Version is 8.0.0.12 (I don't believe the Mac version has updated to 8.0.0.13 yet).

If the game crashes after you select a certain player, will it crash again if you load it back up and select that same player?

Yes it does. I think it's a facegen issue - the times it's crashed it was giving me the "Wait...generating face for Player X" when it crashed (it happened so quickly the first time I hardly noticed it.)

Should I turn facegen off for now?

There's an issue with Mac and PC facegen compatibility. This kind of thing happened to me before when joint commishing an online league, I had to delete faces.dat, reopen the game, and the problem was fixed. But, be sure to back that up in case it doesn't fix it.

I should add one caveat. Deleting faces.dat will require your league to create all new faces for your players, but after it does that it should work as expected.

I've also been having this problem and deleting the faces.dat doesn't seem to be helping. This happens only when I'm clicking on the "HTML" reports, not the regular profiles. This wasn't a problem with OOTP 2007.

Did you go from the PC version to the Mac version with the same file?

If it is indeed the Mac-PC Facegen issue, disabling Facegen will definitely solve the problem. I've encountered this issue repeatedly using pre-made roster sets (CubbyFan's first set, for example) which were made on PC- even though they don't seem to have any FaceGen faces, the game would still try to create faces for certain players, and crash while doing so. Disabling Facegen solved the problem. Not sure what you could try if you want to keep using FaceGen, however.

No, I've never had this on a PC, it's always been on my mac. Could it be that the mlb quickstart roster that's packaged with the game is from a PC? I'll try and shut off facegen completely, but I would much rather have facegen working...

Deleting faces.dat did the trick. It does change the faces some - but it's not such a huge deal in a fictional league. It doesn't change ethnicity - so that's good.
