Fictional League with Historical Players

First off , let me acknowledge the fantastic job Steve Battisti did with the recent Game Guide - a true opus magnum for sure, and it has so far answered almost all the questions I've had. However, I've read the entire section on league creation, and can't find out how to do what I want to do, so I'm hoping some of you more experienced gamers can help me out. I would like to start a fictional league in 1901, but use the actual players for a league draft, and then import the new rookies each season in the amateur draft. I was able to do this in OOTP 6.5, but can't seem to figure out how to do it in OOTP8. I imagine it is quite simple, but with very limited experience with OOTP at all and none for over a year I can't seem to solve the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You are right, quite simple.

Look in the game setup section, where you set up the draft.

DO NOT hold the amature draft, there is an option there to import rookies to the correct team.

NOTE: You may want to change the draft year option.

As if you are in 1901, the rookies are imported a year early. I suggest that you change the draft date to a date around the time when there are 2 weeks left in the season, or after the WS, like I do.

This way you can get a peek at the rookies at season end. Otherwise, you will have the rookies playing a whole season. I personally like it after the WS, as the AI will play the rookies in the series, and that is not fair.

Comedian - Thanks for the reply, and I do appreciate it, but I'm afraid you didn't address my problem. I have a historical league set up, I'm ready to draft, and I have the amateur draft (rookie draft) set for November. However, the historical league dictates that I have 16 teams, in two sub leagues of eight teams each, and that's not what I want to do. What I would like to do is create a fictional league with one sub-league, three divisions, four teams in each division for a total of 12 teams. I would then like to import the historical players from 1901 to hold my draft, and have the rookies import each succeeding year. I knew how to do it in OOTP 6.5 - and believe me it wasn't easy - but I have no idea how to accomplish it in OOTP8.

It is pretty easy to do.........after you create a historcial league go into game set up and make all your changes:

Create the historical league, edit league structure, delete or rename teams, release players to do inaugural draft. Turn off automatic league expansion.

Of course there are many other settings you can change!!!!!
