Error: Could Not Download File

I just bought OOTP 2008 and am having a really bad time with it. I downloaded the original file of a league I'm in and loaded it successfully within the game. After I login, I click on the 'Game' menu then click 'Load Online League File' ....

It proceeds to download the file up to 96% then it gives me an

'Error: Could Not Download File"

Why am I having this problem? The file is compatible with both OOTP7 and 8. Why is the error message so generic?

Any help would be appreciated.....
