Crashing problem
I am running 8.0.0.13 on Vista. I am playing a fictional league that I imported. I played the year and finished the season with no problem. It is now January 1, 2007. When I try to go forward to the next day the game crashes. I received an error message once that said another team didn't have anybody on the active roster but when I go in to try to look the game crashes on me. "OOTP 8 has stopped working." Any suggestions?

Did the game ever crash while saving? How long ago did you get that error message and how did you get past it?

I never had a crash while saving. As far as the error message, as soon as I clicked OK it gave me the error that the game was shutting down.

Are all of the .dat files in your .lg folder of a greater size than 0 kB? Particularly the faces.dat file?

One .dat file is 0 kb. Retired.dat is 0 kb. The other ones are at least 1 kb and up. Faces.dat is 795 kb.

If so, do you have any problems playing any other leagues? If you don't have another one, could you create one to use as a test? |

It did the same thing after the file was removed. The game loaded quicker though. But as soon as you hit any option within the game Windows shuts it down.

Okay, try making a copy of the .dat files and move them into a new .lg folder with nothing else in it. Try loading that and see what happens.
If that doesn't work, try disabling FaceGen and loading up the original league. |

I copied the files into a new .lg folder and opened it and the game crashed the same on me. I also disabled facegen with no difference.
I think this issue is being caused by the team having nobody on the active roster. Is there anyway to open a .dat file and check/modify that? |

Could you please FTP us a zipped copy of your .dat files to take a look at per the instructions below and let us know what you've named it? Thanks. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-files-us.html |

Okay, it looks like simming one day will immediately crash the game. Attempting to sim longer periods of time will not crash the game and will state that San Juan has an illegal number of players on their roster. Attempting to view San Juan's roster crashes the game. Deleting the PR Winter League and attempting to sim multiple days crashes the game.
I'm running out of ideas on this one, Jake. Other than importing the league, did you do anything unusual to the universe? Any editing, particularly with the team or league in question? |

I didn't do anything unusual. I imported the league and played the second half of the season and as soon as the year changed it became unplayable. Any editing I did I would have done in the prior OOTP version. I'm not sure what to do.

I'm really sorry, but I don't have anything else to try. I've explored everything that I know how to do. I know that it's very annoying, but I think that this saved game may be lost.

I'll close this out for now. If you'd like to discuss anything further, please post a link to this thread in Tech Support. I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help.
