BZ 1291: Failed Bunts
I am running a quickstart of the ABA file that I simmed until 1987 then I took over a team. I am not in commissioner mode.
I noticed thru spring training that I wasn't getting any successful bunts. Now I am in the regular season and keeping track. I have had 100 bunt attempts in 73 games from players ranging from 39 to 89 (scouts on) in sac bunt rating. Not a single successful attempt. For testing purposes, I've been going all the way until the player strikes out from taking, missing or fouling the ball for the last 20 attempts. Nothing but failure. Strikeout. Never getting the ball in play when bunting. _not once_ also starting noting that the computer has failed to make a successful bunt since I decided to keep track of that as well. bizarre. additional info: under strategy, bunt is set to normal. Also, under league totals, sac bunts is set to .251 could this be too low maybe? This is the only league I have played in OOTP9, so I haven't seen it elsewhere. I play out all my games. Tom

I have noticed something similar. I just managed to get one of my players to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but it was recorded as an out not as a sacrifice.
Maybe your plays are getting SB when the AI manages, but they are not being scored correctly. |

I am getting a fair number of successful sacrifice bunts, but the problem comes when trying to bunt for a hit. I have 2 dudes who were highly successful in getting on base via the bunt last year, yet even they do nothing but miss the bunt.

Another 50 games and not a single bunt that hasn't been missed or fouled by me or the AI.
Kerplunk's responses made me think to check the other teams numbers. No player who has played after 1971 has a sacrifice hit recorded. FYI, I started the ABA quickstart in 1951, simmed to 1973 and added the DH to one league, simmed to 1987, changed the schedule from 154 to 162 and took over the Baltimore organization. Under options I have Automatically adjust League Strategy, Import Adjusted financial settings, Automatically adjust league total modifiers after each season for historical accuracy all checked on since league creation. Once again, under league totals in the league setup, sac bunts is set to .251 Could this be too low? I'm really really enjoying this league and have NO interest in starting over, adding logos, fixing team colors and locations, learning new players. I would like to get this fixed. I've been trying to come up for some rationalization for why every bunt would fail in rl to make this a bit more playable, but.... Thanks, Tom

OK, yeah, I created a test league to see what the setting was and it was at 1.000.
Why would this be changed to so low? How can I avoid this in the future? Maybe the problem is with the "Automatically adjust league total modifiers after each season for historical accuracy" option. Where does the game get these settings from? Thanks, Tom

Thanks for the help.
Looking at the database, all the numbers seem pretty uniform for SAC, which I am assuming is what I need to look for. I'm not sure of the math formulas I would need to see if the problem is in the data, and even if I did, I don't have the time to get further in-depth for this, so I guess I will scrap doing anything before 2008 with OOTP. Too bad, I was really enjoying this league. Thanks, Tom

I'm not having any problems with the bunts now. I have had a number of bunt hits the past few games and I sure don't see any problems with sacrifice bunts.
