Trade Deadline Ignored?

I am at September 9 of a 2005 replay. I have managed every game of one team. The Trading Deadline is set for July 31. Out of the blue, two trades are made on September 9.

Why would this happen?

did the traded players have to clear waivers before the trade could take place?
