Unable to load faces
PC User...
Just spent two hours setting up a new league within my existing baseball universe, imported from v2007. I go to close the program down/save and get the standard crash message that you see when all programs in windows fail - serious problem, close down, etc etc.... I restart OOTP and try to reload the file I just had open and get the message: "DATABASE::load_database - could not load faces file" And that's all that happens ... It shows I can click 'ok' or 'help', but clicking either does nothing and it appears to be frozen. I just now tried again loading it with Facegen disabled but that didn't work. Any ideas? Please help, I have over 40 years of history in this league and I want to keep it going! |

I'm not sure I can answer your actual question, but try turning facegen off in the 2007 version (I'm not sure if you mean you turned it off in v9 or 2007)- if you haven't done that already.

I would clarify exactly what kind of faces you were using in your imported league. Face gen or actual imported mod photo files.
Then hopefully someone that's had this issue will see this and be able to help. I had an issue with Face Gen not working, and it turned out that my computer color resolution had been knocked down to 16 bit from some temorary power outages/brownouts. Once I reset the color resolution back to 32 bit - presto - Face Gen worked again. |

I'm using just facegen, no other pictures or anything ...
What would turning off Facegen in v2007 do for my now in OOTP9 league? |

When you tried to load it with FaceGen disabled, did you get the same error? Did you restart OOTP after disabling FaceGen and before attempting to load this league?

Hrm. How about this? Make a copy of the faces.dat file from the converted copy of your league and then put it somewhere safe. Copy the faces.dat file from your OOTP 2007 saved game and put it directly into the .lg folder of your converted league.
What happens then? Can you load the game properly? Are your face features retained when the game regenerates picture? |

Didn't work, still the same error message... Of note - the old faces.dat that I moved out of there was listed at 0 KB. Should I have facegen disabled or enabled when I try this fix you mentioend above, or does it matter? |

What happens if you try to load the game up without a faces.dat file in your .lg folder at all? |

Hmmm, I removed the faces.dat folder and voila, it loads! Unfortunately, faces/logos, etc. are kind of important to me ... I tried closing it down and putting it back in, and back to the old crash message. We are getting somewhere at least... maybe? The initial crash while I was exiting/saving occured when it was saving faces I'm pretty sure, so I guess something got corrupted somehow? |

I had the same crash this is a holdover fromm 2008. Delete the faces dat file then try reloading. Face gen will generate more faces.

I guess an alternative would be to do what you've suggested, but keep pictures of all the "name" players.. and then replace the newly generated photos with those of the HOF-ers, all-stars, ie those whose faces I've gotten quite familiar with.. It's a lot of work but better than just throwing in the towel. Would that work? |

Actually, wait.. Now I'm a bit confused..
Faces.dat isn't the same thing as the images folder.. Which is where all the player photos are stored... How do these two things work together? Will I be able to delete faces.dat ... Get Facegen to generate new photos, then just move my saved images folder back in to overwrite all the old files so everyone will have their old faces again? How does this work exactly? Thoughts? Anyone see any way of reviving my league WITH proper faces again? |

faces.dat contains the data required by facegen to create a face, but the images folder contains the generated images, and these images are the ones that are used until a face is regenerated.
There isn't anyway of regenerating the faces.dat data from the images so I'm not sure how you'll be able to keep faces on and not lose the faces you already have. What size is the faces.dat file that you tried to copy in? If it's from a previous version of the game the header will be different. I'll send you a PM and if you could send the faces.dat from your old game I'll check it out for you.

You could probably save a few select images by using the Picture -> Freeze Picture option for any player who you wish to copy the image over.
If the player_XXXX.png option doesn't work, then you could rename the image file as the player's actual name. However, none of this would allow you to have the player change uniforms, for instance. |

I've sent a v9 version of your v8 faces.dat file via email. Can you check whether it works.

ripwalk was able to load the version of faces.dat that I sent, and as there don't appear to have been any problems, this thread will be closed.
