Crash During Launch
OOTP9 is working fine on my Vista laptop, but on my older XP desktop, it crashes during the launch process - see attached for errors that come up during launch.
I am running XP service pack 2 on an 1 Ghz AMD PC with 512 MB of RAM - I am not running AVG or Avast, and I verified that the License service is running... any ideas? |

512 MB of ram seems pretty low. Perhaps that has an effect? Do you have other programs running when you do the initial launch of OOTP? I would suggest trying to shut down whatever anti-virus program your are using first and then try again. You may also want to disable any other programs that begin automatically at startup since they are also eating up your limited resources.

Ok, I tried removing just about everything from startup using msconfig and stopped the services for my antivirus - I had about 250 MB of free ram when I tried running it again, and it still does the same thing once it gets to the 'copying little_endian folder' screen...

I've got to assume it has to do with the process of installing little endian (Facegen files) at the beginning. Perhaps that is too much for your machine? Like I said earlier, it isn't a lot of RAM and that could be part of the problem.
Have you tried re-downloading the install file and trying again? Were you able to install OOTP 2007/8 on this machine previously?

I'll try freeing up every bit of available RAM and try it again in a bit...
I hadn't played OOTP in a while - my last version was 6.5, so I never tried installing 7 or 8... |

I closed everything I could - I had about 280 MB of free space - and the same thing happened - any other ideas?

Right now other than buying more memory I can't think of anything. Wait for today's patch and download the new file with that and try it again.

I believe the ootp website recommends 1 GB of RAM for the game to run (with 256 MB being the absolute minimum), but try searching the forums for errors involving the little endian file. I can't remember what its done off the top of my head, but I know its caused some problems.

I am actually having the opposite problem. I am going from an older desktop to a newer laptop with more RAM and can't get any version of OOTP to work. I was actually running 6.5 on 128MB on my desktop and now I'm running with 512 on my laptop and can't get 6, 6.5 or the newly downloaded 9 to work. I am encountering the same type of error message. If I could run 6.5 on 128 on desktop I should surely be able to run it on 512 via laptop. Can anyone help me figure out how to get this accessible? I would greatly appreciate it.
