Corrupt file solution??

I have posted here in the past about corruption of data file during the automatic save while quiting the game. This makes this league impossible to load going forward and therefor all time spent on it is wasted and I have to start again. Nobody knows why this happens so I have quit worrying about it. I am now trying to figure away around this problem.

What about if I made a back up of my league each time before quiting and saving? That way if a file become corrupt, I could replace the entire saved league file with the back up and start again there. Opinions requested.

We have logged some issues related to crashes while saving, of note.

Making a backup is the best way to go. It's the safe bet.

I dont know about that. I got some type of crash with the faces file, and the back up wont load anything. I ALWAYS make frequent backups (I learned my lesson in version 7). With 7, it seemed any problem sort of automatically got fixed on reload. Not so with 9. Backups also take forever to make.

Before this last and fatal crash, I was getting errors after I saved the game, backed it up, then exited the game. But somehow the back up did allow the game to load the next time I reloaded it to play. And all seemed well. Sort of like how backups worked in 7.

I was having crash problems quite a bit after the 9.1.2 patch, then I went into the game and turned off anything that had anything to do with "FaceGen". Since then, I've had no crashes, though I probally just jinxed myself.

I will say though, it's a shame that while playing OOTP9, everytime I save my league or exit, my heart has to race for fear that there will be another crash. I'm hoping Markus will find the cause of these "save game" crashes and have a fix when the next patch comes out.

You edited your original post after I replied.

Make sure that you save before making a copy of your game files. You can save and copy before quitting, but if you copy before saving, you won't get any changes since your last save. The .dat files aren't edited during play, except while saving.

My record for games completed before the database file gets corrupted is 3. This will be the 5th league I have attempted to start. My patience is thin. If it gets corrupted again, I will probably seek a refund. Such a shame since it has so much potential, and is an otherwise great game.
