Database Error Message after 9.1.2 Patch!

I have the latest patch, 9.1.2 that I got from Monday night, and was playing my league, but upon hiting the save league button, I got another crash. Now, every time I try to load my league, I get the message below and the game locks up on me.

What do I do now? Have I lost yet another league?

Ok, I remember seeing Markus tell someone else to replace a dat file or something from another league, so I copied and pasted the "faces.dat" file from another league into the one I was using before the crash, and I'm able to get onto my league now. (It does pay to read these threads.)

Still though, what caused the crash in the first place and will it continue to occur now and then?

The faces saving crash is extremely rare, and so far we have not found the reason yet. It has been around since OOTP 2007

I'm going to move this thread over to Technical Support in case other people are experiencing the same error and they can post their information in here too.

I have gotten this crash at least 5 times already with 2008 (when I first started playing OOTP), and already once with 9.

Since it's suppose to be "extremely rare," maybe the frequency that it's happening to me means the stars align just perfectly in my computer for this bug. The most noticeable thing about my computer that's different than a normal desktop is that I'm running on a 64-bit CPU using Windows XP 64-bit edition, maybe that has something to do with it.

I have experienced the similar issue with OOTP9.0, 9.1, too. (Several times)
My case is like...

1. Simming my fictional league
2. When the game auto save the league at the end of the year, it crashes.
3. I try to load the game again,
4. I get the same message as the OP got.

Just reporting.

I have not been having this or the closing crash since the first patch. So I hope it is gone for now.

Not sure if this will help, but when the crash occured for me, I was on my teams transations page and had just clicked on the "Save Now" button at the top left of the game.

After losing numerous leagues I noticed that when I was on any HTML page when saving that some how a file got corrupted. since then I have been quiting and saving only from my Manager screen or the main screen and have not had any more problems. Knock on wood.

kckid, how did you know to copy that particular file? So you say you can go to any current league file you have, copy and paste this "faces.dat" file into your corrupted one and you can then get the game started??

Well, I just remember Markus telling someone that you could create a new league and use the "dat" file from the new one to use with the one that is corrupted. Since my error message said something about "faces", I just assumed the "faces.dat" file is the one I needed.

Damn, great idea. I need to take note of which file the error message says did not load create a new league and copy and paste it to the old league. Thanks a lot. Next time it happens, I'll give that a try.

Cool I will try that on my league that was destroyed the other day, but due to messages.dat corruption (4th or 5th time I have lost a league). After I patch today I will create a new league and copy the messages.dat and hope this saves my league. I play out all games and having the season destroyed in Mid-august is really stupid.

Ok I did a full uninstall and reinstall with 9.1.2 and created a new mlb league. I copied the messages.dat file over to my league that crashed, and still I have the same problems. It loads perfect, but attempting to do anything causes a crash to desktop. I have even tried to resave the league after a load and it crashes around 22%. I have always had the messages.dat file be the one that corrupts, normally at 83% saving progress I believe. I really don't have much desire to start another league from sratch and lose yet another league. Please help find a workaround.

I to added 9.1.2 then restarted my old fictional league. Error message says Options file didn't load. I created a New Game and copied that file. Restart say Names failed to load. I copied that one from New Game and restarted. This time ethnicities file failed to load. I then copied all data files from new game and pasted to my old fictional league. It now loads completely but guess what...all my teams are gone all history, everything. I put a lot of hours into logos, uniforms, caps, everything...all gone.
It seems to me that the only way to play OOTP9 is to create a league and just let it sim for 100 years. Any personal management at all and it will eventually get ****** up. I to am too tired to start a new league for the 10th time. What amazes me is that this problem has not been recognised as a major problem. I certainly wouldn't have bought the game. When it works it is amazing, but then........................ah to hell with it.

Yes I have been expecting this issue to be a logged error, but so far pbp errors and other easily fixed problems seem to get priority, not major database corruptions that destroy leagues. There is obviously something messed up in the saving of the database that is corrupting it, and it needs to get priority.

I am beginning to feel the same frustration. Spent long hours bringing my historical league from 1871 to 1896, adding minor leagues as the player database grew, making sure the stadia and team names were historically accurate.

Then this morning I loaded the new patch. When I tried to load my saved game, I received this message:

"DATABASE::load_database - could not load world file."

When I click OK, I receive this message:

"The loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt [wasn't just an hour ago] or a save-game from an old version [no ****, Charlene]."

I tried copying and pasting the world.dat file from a different league. No dice. Now what? This league represents my fifth or sixth do-over, and I am not going to start another.

Database is corrupt

When I create a new world and then try to enter my old saved league once inside the game, I receive this message:

"Error!

Could not load game! The database is corrupt!"

What part of it?

David, that is the exact same message I have gotten many times so I know it's not just my machine. And you're correct, the corruption takes place when quiting and saving.
