BZ 1601: Depth Chart/Lineup Problems
Per this lengthy thread, many people (myself included) are having problems with the AI's decisions on starting players. There are many rational explanations for why an "obvious" choice to start might actually not be so, and we know that "the AI doesn't know names", but there are far too many ridiculous choices being made by the AI (with coaches OFF) to be ignored.
There are lots of examples in the above thread, but here's mine: Imported 1957 Atlanta Braves into a current (2008) non-historical league. All coaches and scouts are off. AI evaluation is default. Imported using neutralized stats. For whatever reason, Hank Aaron is not set to start vs. RHP. This makes no sense. The guy had 44 HR that year...50 in neutralized stats. If he's not the starting RF, then that's just dumb. One thing I did notice was that he imported with extremely low fielding ratings (he gets rated a 1 in RF). That year, he split time between CF and RF. While I don't agree that he should be rated that low for either position, maybe the AI is only looking at RF for him? I get the same kind of thing with the 2007 Red Sox. The AI insists on putting Eric Hinske in LF instead of Manny Ramirez vs RHP. The only measure in which that makes any kind of sense is fielding, but if anything it should start Manny and put Hinske in as defensive replacement. BZ#1601

Middle Earth has rolled by like an army of Mumakil. It has been erased like a slate, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Frodo. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... beings will come Frodo. Beings will most definitely come." - Gladden Field of Dreams |

This was apparently fixed in version 9.1.2. If you continue to have this problem, please post a link to this thread in Tech Support.
