Creating a custom game w/ Historical players
Hi,
I am new to the game and wondering how (if it is possible) to import rookies from multiple seasons into a single league at game creation? Basically I want to start in 1871 but play with modern rules and have as few fictional players as possible. One way I have done this in other games is to import players from each year in sequence with "Allow Duplicate Players" off. This brought in unique players from multiple years to the same organization allowing me to populate the league with enough players to seed my rosters until MLB history caught up with my more modern roster/schedule rules. Can this be done in OOTP? Without editing the DB? If I start with players from 1871 but my schedule/game year is something else how are subsequent rookies imported? How is that affected by importing multiple seasons worth of rookies (assuming this is possible)? Sorry for the long post and lots of questions. Loving the game so far just wanting to do a little more customizing and not sure how. Thanks - Jeremy |

I'm not sure if this exactly answers your question, but if you want to import players not already in the game, you can do that from the free agent screen by hitting the import historical player button at the bottom. Though this involves individual players only, not entire draft classes, and you have to find their individual ID in the Master.csv file, I think. This will work as long as the player has stats for the year you want to import them. I'm not sure what it will do, if anything, if you try to import a player during a year in which the guy had no stats, I've never tried that.
I hope this is what you are looking for, if not, hopefully someone else will know what to do, or even if it can be done. |

Not exactly how I wanted to do it....
Thanks for the reply.... I knew about the ability to import players one at a time but don't want to have to import 1000+ players that way to fill out the 1871 rosters. I was hoping for something along the lines of a full season worth of new players to an existing initial draft pool with a check to make sure no duplicates were added. I guess this might be tough to do in OOTP without making major edits to the DB - which I don't fully understand yet.
Anyone want to volunteer some DB editing advice? What's the best way to do a quick change of debut and birth dates? Will this affect the player rating based on stats generation? If a player debut is manually changed to 1884 but he never played after 1884 does the game know enough to ignore the season years in his record and generate based on his ever if prior? I have another team related question but will post separately. Jeremy |

Yeah, I know this is far from ideal. I offered it as a "not good, but better than nothing" type solution. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience with the DB, so someone else will have to supply the necessary help there. Hope you get it figured out, though. Cheers.

you can indeed bring in entire teams into the FA pool to then select and delete what you don't want. i.e. in an older version of OOTP I ran an on-line league where each owner picked two franchise/year combos, for instance, somebody took the Orioles from 1970 and 1983, I imported both teams into my custom league (in a matter of seconds), pushed the players into the Orioles team I had waiting, and the owner then had to get down to 25 man roster, deleting the rest (rule I had). I did this for 16 owners and had a season out of it. Then went to other variations like an owner could build a team from all the Orioles teams of the 70's (no duplicate players however) etc. In OOTP9 it took me a while to find how to import entire teams, but it is possible so you don't have to do it player by player. the menu is off of : -game setup -league setup tab -edit league structure there is a button to import historical team, click it, point to where the database and csv files are (in my documents usually) click on the master.csv, confirm then on next screen: type in the year , hit the refresh team list button next to it, then go to the dropdown, voila, make your pick, team will import things you want to do before doing these imports is to eliminate all players from your set up league so you only will have the imported players I haven't learned all the ways to accomplish this but I will be re-creating an on-line league I ran for over 20 seasons back in OOTP4 and this is critical to how I will do it. It will be a custom league with real players starting in 1975. Will have All-Time Greats in it as well through this method, one per team. Hope this helps. I just bought OOTP9 the other day, still learning the new controls.
