Online leagues using feeders?
I'm looking for an online league that uses feeder leagues, so I can check out the feeders and how it all relates. Anyone using them?

The PEBA uses them as well. Check out the USCBA (COL) and IF (HS) links. As cnield asked, what exactly are you curious about?

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.
We're thinking about starting to use them in the JL. I've never played with them before, anywhere, so I want to see what they look like, in the context of a league, and how they work. I'd like to know how the stats look, how many players there are in the leagues, and what the details of the feeder leagues and feeder league teams are. I'm ignorant of the whole concept, and I want to educate myself, so that we can make an informed decision whether to start using them, ourselves. |

We're thinking of adding them in the BLB as well.
1998 Yankees posted some good information on feeder leagues here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...439-post8.html The only area I disagree from my testing is regarding the number of feeder league teams to add. His formula is: Quote:
However, when using 60 teams I found that it was creating about 500 players for each draft pool. I think it's much better to have too few feeder league teams rather than too many. Reason being, if you have too many the talent in your league will be out of whack. The more players in the draft pool, the more talented players there are. If you have too few the game just creates enough to make up the difference. They won't have feeder league stats but it's better than the alternative. |

FWIW, we have 60 teams in our feeder system. It's a 24-team league with a 20-round draft. We do graduate players from the feeders in 4 years rather than the standard 5, though. In my testing I haven't found these settings to lead to talent inflation over time (and I've simmed out as far as 200 years).

What do you mean when you say graduate in 4 years? What age limits do you use? We were thinking of using 15-18 and 18-21. |

Our draft is populated entirely through the feeders, yes. Generally about 490 players will graduate each year, though that number could fluctuate by as much as 25 up or down.
When I say "graduate" I'm referring to the age ranges. OOTP defaults to a 5-year age range, but we've shortened that to 4. Our age ranges are 14-17 for HS and 17-20 for COL. Because of when our feeders's seasons end (just a week before the draft), this actually results in high schoolers graduating at age 18 and college players graduating at age 21.

I used feeders in a solo league once. I actually set up three smaller leagues so that I would have a wider variety of ages in the ammy draft. if your age ranges are 14~17 and 18~21 then you'll only have draftees with ages 17, 18, 21, & 22. So I think I set up a third league(call it Jr College if you will) with the range of 19~20 so I would get those 19 and 20 year old draftees. I think that is right.

i have added my feeder leagues. But there is no one draft worthy ... I'm using the 1-5 potential rating, and the top prospects are a 3 ... so they're average .... what's the best way to up the talent level of these feeder teams?
as a note, we are starting with league talent low. I had it before where it had good talent in the College and HS league, but after having to restart some stuff, there isn't. |

We added feeder leagues last season. I don't think they've been in place long enough for me to judge the impact.
We added 2 college and 2 high school leagues of 24 teams each, for a total of 96 feeders. That might be too much, but we don't know yet. The high school players are set to turn out when they're 17-18 (one league goes from 14-17, the other from 15-18). The college players are set to turn out when they're 20-21 (one league is 17-20, one is 18-21).
