Rocky Characters

Hey,

First, I want to say great work to Bear. I can't believe the effort you've put in to make every boxer from TV and movies. I was amazed looking at this archive. You made Gleason from that Honeymooners episode, that's unbelievable.

Anyway, I read here that there was a site, cornerwork.com, that had all the characters from the Rocky series, but the site has been down. Can anyone upload them or send me a link? I'm especially looking for Rocky, Apollo, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago.

Also, someone had asked that Mickey the Pikey from the movie Snatch be made. I'd also love to add him. I wouldn't call it a boxing movie, but there's some great scenes involving bare-knuckle boxing and I'll recommend that movie til the day I die. Pure entertainment.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Rocky

I have the Rocky characters you are referring to. I'll post them forthwith on my defunct Heavyweight thread. I usually have no great interest in fictional fighters (there's too many real ones out there!) but the Rocky characters are so part of our culture that they can't be ignored.

Got em

Hey John,

Btown32 posted the Rocky characters for me, so thanks. I'm a little embarrassed because I'm a long-time fight fan and in my first post I asked for a fictional Dolph Lundgren character haha. Actually, it's because you guys have created almost everyone I could think of. I've spent a couple of days cruising this site, grabbing up the guys I needed. The only guy I'm missing (I might think of a few more as I get deeper in the game) is Kevin Kelley. Have you rated him?

I have to thank you personally because the guy I really wanted was Derrick "Smoke" Gainer. I don't know anyone that remembered him, but he was a pretty good fighter for a while under Roy Jones' tutelage. I conducted a search and couldn't find him, but after searching through each post on this board, I found that you made him and I was thrilled, so thanks for that.

It's great to see guys with genuine enthusiasm for a sport and a game and are willing to commit as much time as you have. In case you don't hear it enough, it's much appreciated.

Many of my early posts were just posted files with no explanation so some of the guys are hard to find. Sorry about that. I edited the Rocky files though to give estimated DOBs etc so you might still want to look them up.

Kevin Kelley is in the data pool. Did you want Kelvin Kelley? More Rocky characters appear in my HW thread than just the stars. (Sorry for butting in on your thread, Bear. Just wanted to help the new guy out.)

ID Conflicts

Bear,

I am getting an error when trying to import some of these guys. They all seem to have a Record ID, problem. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I'll try to figure something out. When I posted them initially I left the ID # blank because none of them had real lives that could be connected to box rec. That may be the root of the problem. Since then I had some problems with the bio information and added made up numbers to their id. Later creations were given numbers in a sequence I've been using.

I.D.'s

I've solved the problem by assigning fake boxrec numbers to unnumbered fighters such as old timers and amateurs and the occasional fantasy fighter like from the Rocky Universe. I started at 1000001 which is high enough that no boxrec number is likely to reach anytime soon if ever. But downloading a fighter with the same number as another doesn't effect the files of either. It's when you download fighters with the same name that you run into overwrite problems on the bio page.

John,

The error I get refers to the RECORD ID. Is that just what it tells me even though it's a naming problem?

Thanks for the help.

I.d.

It's my experience that if you just go ahead and download a fighter who has the same number as another or no number at all you might get an error warning but there is no affect other than that. A fighter will have his bio page (by that I mean the one with the write in info such as career record and titles held) overwritten if another fighter with the exact same name is downloaded into the universe.

Just say you want to import the fighter, but not overwrite the existing fighter. That allows two fighters with the same ID into your data base and there aren't any issues.

I'd like to thank John & PWillis for responding to this while I was away from my Title Bout computer.

My darts team had a first round playoff match which we won.
