While we continue the hunt for our new Canton Longshoremen owner, you can get a sampling of what makes the PEBA such a unique experience in the online OOTP world by viewing our PEBA 2011 "Best Of" Writing Awards. At the conclusion of each season, awards are handed out recognizing the most exemplary writing efforts from our members. During our 2011 season, PEBA/LRS owners submitted over 250 articles, ensuring that there's always new content to read at the PEBA homepage. 46 of those articles are highlighted in 16 awards categories. It's a great opportunity to catch up on PEBA/LRS action and to get a taste of our league's style and substance. Bookmark the page and return to it on a rainy day when you're looking for an interesting baseball-flavored diversion!

I'm currently a member of this league and without a doubt this is one of the better leagues out there. We still have one more opening as we enter the 2012 season (6th season of the league). The Canton Longshoremen are still avaible as listed by Corsairs earlier.

I enjoy this league for many reasons (in no particular order):

1. Great atmosphere with the owners and fictional world
2. Live Winter Meetings
3. Live Amateur Draft
4. Full set of minors (AAA down to Short Season A)
5. Feeder Leagues for high school and college
6. A Japanese league ran by real owners which means this league is a living, breathing universe
7. "Newbie" friendly
8. Great commissioner who is well-respected in both the league and OOTP community

With that said, I realize this league may not be for everyone. Some things you should be aware of is that this is a fictional league. We do play with scouts and coaches on. There are some minor writing requirements.

You can check out our Constitution here. For those interested or have any more questions, please contact Corsairs.

This weekend will be the cutoff date for accepting applications for the vacant Canton Longshoremen GM position. Stop by the PEBA website and click on the "Join the PEBA" link under the PEBA Links menu. You'll be just in time to prepare your new team for the 2012 season. You'll also be invited to join us for our annual Spring Training town hall meeting. Owners, GMs, scouts, beat writers and other team representatives will be gathering to discuss a range of topics, including:
  • Team outlooks for 2012
  • Spotlights on key prospects that may be breaking in this season
  • Experiences from the new arbitration system, which was negotiated into the latest CBA and implemented by both the PEBA and LRS last year
  • Retrospective question: "What was the most impactful event for your franchise during the first five years of its existence?"
The 2012 PEBA Spring Training town hall meeting will be held Sunday, May 9 @ 7:00 PM ET in the PEBA chat room (linked from our homepage). Non-members are invited to attend and watch the proceedings.

Well, it looks like we're headed to extra innings in our search for a new Canton Longshoremen owner. The PEBA has just hit 2012 spring training. Here's your chance to make a mark on this franchise. Get the players you like the playing time they need to shake off the rust. Ditch the dead weight. Swing some trades with the most active traders around. It all starts with getting in touch with us!

All this poor franchise needs is some stability at the top!

The nomadic franchise of the PEBA returns to the spotlight. Speaking earlier about the Badgers, I suggested that a GM with some sticktoitiveness could have the Badgers turned around in short order. Finding that GM for the Badgers has been the trick. We'd like to see if we can nail it this time around.

Almost everything else that was said about the Badgers last time still applies. Kalamazoo is a team with tons of potential, and yet things have been going south for them since the conclusion of their gangbusters inaugural season campaign in 2007, where they went 100-62. Eight fewer wins in 2008; three fewer wins in 2009; nine fewer wins in 2010, dipping below .500 for the first time; and now a 75-87 record as we wrap up the 2011 season.

Things have been going downhill for the Badgers, which is frankly shocking when you look at the wealth of talent they possess. 1B John Collins is one of the best sluggers in the league (and he's raking to start 2012). They've got stud youngster Joel Swedlove manning second base. He forms a dynamic double play combo with SS Raúl García (who, unfortunately, is out for the next three months with a broken hand). CF Álex Martínez gives the Badgers an up-the-middle offense to boast about. Er Hang gives them an ace starting pitcher (and a really cool name).

With all that going for them, why do the Badgers continue to play second fiddle to Crystal Lake? Good question. Maybe they just haven't found the right man to lead this collection of talent. Which is where you come in.

It's time for the slow degenerative process to stop. We're just one month into the 2012 season, and K-Zoo has kept their head above water with a 17-15 mark. This is a club with a legitimate chance to dance into the playoffs. They're lacking one key final ingredient: Strong leadership at the top.

That's where you come in. Join now and you'll have the time you need to make the big decisions. Draft Day is just two and a half weeks away. Which players from our feeder leagues do you want to build around? Is there a trade out there that will put the team over the top?

Think you might know the answers to these questions? Like to craft fictional articles and participate in a highly active forum populated with passionate baseball fans? Then get in touch with me today. The Badgers' fortunes are poised to turn. Demonstrate your leadership skills and make Kalamazoo the force to be reckoned with that they deserve to be!

The Badgers have a new owner! Thank you to everyone who expressed interest. With luck, this will be our final opening until the offseason, at which time we will be preparing to convert the PEBA over to OOTP 11.

The Connecticut Nutmeggers and its affiliates need you to take them over the top

The Nutmeggers struggled mightily in their first three seasons. Back-to-back 78-win campaigns the past two seasons had hopes high for the future. Alas, the team appears to have taken a step backwards in 2012. Now it falls upon the shoulders of new management to take up the mantle any lift Connecticut over the top.

What you have with the Nutmeggers is some solid parts that aren't coming together to form a winning whole. There's no denying Brooks Erickson is a stud and Juan Otero has just been named Imperial League Player of the Week, but those two haven't been enough to carry a disappointing offense. Undoubtedly, the situation will improve when youngsters George John and Ronald Lowry return shortly from injuries that have slowed them this year.

On the pitching side, the team has three reasonable under-30 starters in Hamilton Cole, Chandler Davis and António Cruz. What they lack is an ace. Adrián Reséndez was to fill that role, but he has frustrated Nutmeggers fans with flashes of brilliance surrounding two very serious injuries that shelved him for a great deal of time. Reséndez is struggling to start 2012. Is he washed up at age 26? Have the injuries done him in? That will be just one of the tough calls a new Connecticut owner will have to make.

The prospect pipeline is not dry, but most of Connecticut's top young players are honing their skills for the Cary Grants of the North American Farm Team Association (Hi-A). Some, like potential ace-in-the-making Carlos Rivera, are young for the league... and still succeeding. Others, like power-hitting Jorge Morín, may be ready for a greater challenge. Again, how you want to develop these assets is up to you.

To begin making the choices that need making to begin Connecticut's drive to the top, fill out the "Join the PEBA" application on our website. We'll fill you in on further details about the Nutmeggers, as well as what you can expect as a member of the PEBA. Don't delay! The PEBA's 2012 June Amateur Draft is being held live next weekend. The sooner you contact us, the sooner you can begin preparing!

Another bump as we continue the search for a new Connecticut Nutmegger owner. I refuse to believe one would turn away from the opportunity to manage a franchise so jam-packed with excellent team artwork. Contact us today so that we can work you into the fold!

I just wanted to stop by and say how much fun being a part of the PEBA Universe really is. I am the original owner of the New Orleans Trendsetters,
I have experienced the thrill of championship and the struggle of rebuilding and both are equally fun.
Not only is it fun because of the challenge but because of the people you get to interact with and the massive amount of user created content (articles,
artwork, etc.) which expands the lore around each team and many of the players.
Whether you are looking for a place to hone your managing skills, help add to an already expansive fictional baseball universe, or interact with active
members of an OOTP online league PEBA is the place for you!

Bump

As the Reno owner, I second everything that the Trendsetters said

The commish and owners are fantastic---although I haven't had franchise success yet, the league is incredibly entertaining and challenging from a perspective of trying to build up a franchise.

If there are openings, I strongly suggest that non-members try to become members!!!

I came on last season as the owner of the Aurora Borealis and I can not say enough about the group of guys in the league, their helpfulness, the camaraderie, and the amazing material that is produced by the community that makes the PEBA a total BLAST. And did I mention one of the most conscientious commissioners out there? Super active in the group. He's not there to simply sim and deliver results. As George Crocker would say, "Dude, it's so freakin' awesome, man when I was playing we had even better on-line leagues. I remember once in K-Zoo...". Who's George Crocker? Check us out and find out!

This will likely be the last bump of the PEBA's OOTP X thread. I realize we're in the nether time when a new version of the game has been released and everyone has forgotten about the boring (yet tried-and-true) old version, so there aren't going to be too many eyes on this forum. Soon enough, we'll be joining the crowd in OOTP 11 Land. Our conversion is scheduled for mid-September, enough time for the final patch to be released and for us to put it through its paces.

That still leaves three months running under Ye Olde OOTP X, and we still have an opening with the Connecticut Nutmeggers. Though the tumbleweeds are blowing through the OOTP X forums, I still hold out hope that there are some great owner candidates looking to become of a great baseball community. If you're reading this and fit that bill... what are you waiting for? Get in touch with us today and get your new team set up for the big move to greener pastures!

And for everyone reading, whether you're looking to join a league or not, we invite you to stop by our website and browse our enormous list of articles. You'll be treated to all manner of stories. Did you know, for instance, that one of the PEBA's biggest sluggers moonlights as an archeologist? If that's too far out for you, you can enjoy a father's tribute to Chiben High School freshman pitcher Shunsen Endo, Jr. Happy Father's Day, everybody!

Last call! The PEBA is preparing to migrate to OOTP 11. Our switch-over will occur in late September/early October. At that time, we will be able to advertise openings in the much more trafficked OOTP 11 Online Leagues forum.

If you would like an opportunity to join the PEBA before our advertisements go "mainstream", now is the time to make your move. Click this link, fill out the application and put yourself in the running for a position in one of OOTP's most recognized online leagues. You'll need access to OOTP X for the remainder of our time under that platform, as well as OOTP 11 once we make our transition. Don't wait until we've made the switch, though... make your move before the competition heats up.
